Great pictures,I love the old 660's. Are they still allowed to run them or have all the emission laws put them out of action? Thanks.

Great pictures Ken as always. With such big fleets just laying around you wonder if the guys in Dubai would beinterested in them, no emmisions laws and lots of dirt to move, one contract let last month for the Arabian Canal was 200 million cubic metres of earthworks and with volumes that big and all big mining gear on backorder for years these scrapers could get the job done, parts and fitters may be the hold up though.

Good photos Kenny! Tristar Transport & Contracting recieved the contract for the 1st of 10 "packages" on the canal and work began at the start of October. I hope there will be some photos of the project around soon. The canal portion of the project will be completed in 3 years with the "city within a city" waterfront development completed in phases over the next 15 years. There are a fair amount of U.S. engineering firms on the 1st package as well. "It will involve digging and moving more than a million cubic metres of earth - enough to fill 400 Olympic-sized swimming pools - every day. Arabian Canal will, without question, be one of the wonders of the engineering world." This should be an interesting project to follow. - Chris

Hey Guy's thanks for the comments, except you 89cxsport Almost all those scrapers are up to standards and just waiting for work... They are all paid for and he will not sell any... This is just one of 3 yards full of scrapers, he fought for years to get those 660B's w/ pans from Madonna grading in San Luis Obispo but John Madonna refused to sell a single one of them, when he passed away his wife just wanted them off the land so sold all 8 for only $140,000... They've only seen 2 job sites and are just waiting for the day to be put back to work Ken

Awesome pics Ken, always love them! I would like to see those 660's in action, I'm sure you'll have some shots of those when they're working though.
This Arabian Canal Project sounds awesome. Is there a project website or info avalible online about it? Where is the canal project located?
Thanks

Website to Arabian Canal in Dubai. http://www.arabiancanal.com/Couple of videos on there showing earthworks EX5500 & 789, s of Leightons and check out old mate making sure the bucket is empty on the small Komatsu loader, what an operator!!!! Might be a job there for Ralph Mitzel, certainly has the fleet for it along with i am sure some other SoCal contractors with fleets parked up. Ken just how many and who,s scraper fleets are parked?

Apart from stating the obvious (size of bowl and BHP) what is the difference between a 660 tractor and 666?

Tractor HP and bowl size wise the 660 and 666 are on par, the 666 gets another powertrain in the rear

The California(CARB-California Air Resources Board) emissions are really tough on these old machines. The difference between a 660 and a 666.The 660B is 550hp and 54 yards and has got a single engine up front. The 666/666B like the 627,627B,627E,627G,637,637B,637C,637D,637E,637G657,657B,657E and the 657G are all tandem powered wheel tractor scrapers

Thanks for the pics, I think I'd pass out if I saw that many 6 wheelers anywhere! I got to see 4 666's converted to 660's last year on the way to Vegas, they were sold at an RB auction and the most expensive one went for only $14,000....I have pics, but have never figured out phot posting on this forum. If you EVER get some pics of these in action, please email me. Even if it's a year or more from now! Love the 6 wheelers.... alan627b@hotmail.comThanks, Alan

Nice photos! That is awesome seeing all those old scrapers still hanging on. Hopefully they find some work because those pics would be even better. I see you were at MINExpo too - I got some pics of that 385C also, but didn't catch it working! Nice job!
