I have just seen in Earthmovers that Scottish coal have now got 4 Liebherrs R9350S,2 on Backhoe and 2 on Face shovel for the Broken Cross site.I know that Scottish Coal used to favour the O&K brand and have a some Komatsu's .I also know Komatsu outsold Terex/O&K with regaurds to mining machines destined for Opencasts in the UK. I'm just wondering wondering why the change to Liebherr, its been a very long time since any Opencast cast outfits bought such large Liebherrs.Does anyone else have any information on this story ? ie did Liebherr offer a really good deal etc.I look very forward to reading the report in next months Earthmovers and viewing the pictures.

A very good deal from Liebherr clinched it. I spent a day up there last year doing the promo photography and the story for Liebherr and Earthmovers. They are great looking machines and are 3 passing the Terex TR100s in under a minute:d/ :d/ Paul

Hi Graeme, Very similar to the Komatsus in every respect! Great looking machines though and everyone at Castlebridge like them more than the Terex! Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for the feedback on the Liebherrs I guess a few sites will be watching them to see how they perform, perhaps this is just the start of Liebherr.

Graeme, the machines are supplied on a 2 year warranty basis and Liebherr have put in 6 containers full of spares, a product support man and a project engineer along with fitters as and when required. When I was there the Backhoe had a 1000 hour service and the Faceshovel was approaching 500 hrs. The second backhoe is due to start working this Monday 16th Feb.

Also, the second Faceshovel is due to be delivered at the end of the month. We have a 200tonner booked by Liebherr GB to assemble it lasting 10 days!!
