I just stumbled across these pictures from the LKW - Stefan Forum which has a heap of great pics of the D11T dozers. This pic was posted by 'Ruston Bucyrus' was of particular interest... I assume that it is an exhaust silencer? After converting his comments to English, he goes on to say that the dozer is from Switzerland. Rowan. 1:25th scale CAT 375L excavator

It´s a soot particulate filter due to the restrictive emission laws in Switzerland. You will find such systems on almost every construction machinery there. e.g. here´s a nice CAT 365 ES UHD from Switzerland with double exhaust pipes. It has got a similar system on it. http://www.baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=27595&sid=84cf6eac5522ee8c3ed0d7856e70caf5Jan

That's an emissions control system. In the state of New York it is required for any NEW construction equipment purchased after January 2008. When Testa purchased one of its new 1250's last year for used at Ground Zero they had to have this multiple muffler installed. It also carries a NewYork State emission compliance sticker. You will be seeing more of this on diesel equipment rather than a big honkin' stack. http://www.cleanaircommunities.org/projects/wtc.html Stephen SetteDucati, Manager of Marketing and MediaMCM Management Corp.

If anybody subscribes to Equipment Today magazine, there is an article discussing meeting exhaust requirements in non-attainment zones. Ther is a picture of a Deere grader with an exaust treatment similar to the one on the D11.

All of our new freightliner trucks are coming with this soot filters on them, We are getting about 300 trucks so we see how they do. The drivers do not like them as much do to the truck will shut down if the soot filter gets to full, and they have to wait for it to cycle though and wait for the filter clean out alittle before the truck will operate again, you have to love technology. I can not wait to order parts for those trucks, I bet those filter and exhaust parts are not cheap Jason NIkl Scale Models

That is an awesome pic Rowan LKW-Stefan has a great site & forum for sure! You can get lost on there looking at stuff for days...not speaking from experience or anything Over here they are starting to enforce diesel particulate filters too, here's a few pics of a 988 with the HUSS DPF setup. CA is now also trying to make all machines going in for re-powers have these particulate filter installed, here's a pic of one on a newly re-powered 657E. Nice ugly hood ornament that only costs $80,000
