I don't understand why they choose to rig the crane with so much boom when the placement of the bridge sections were below the operators cabin and there were no obstacles between them. Wouldn't a shorter boom and a jib be more effective?
I may be ignoring something obvious.

I may be ignoring something obvious. I'm no expert, but i would presume it would be to reach out over the river to place the far off bridge sections. Not all the sections were so close to the operators cabin...

I may be ignoring something obvious. Because they had to set the sections starting from the ones on the far side of the stream.....

Crane equiped with 126m of main boom 200te of counterweight on upper structure 600te on the suspended tray. 125te @94m radius and the longest radius was 110m.
