Think i am soing to start classes to get my CDL-A and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what i have gotten myself into. I have some experience driving trailors but none that size. and also if anyone could tell me how hard it is to learn how to double clutch. I have a standard pick-up truck but i have been told that that is a dis advantage as it is entirly different? any truth to that

Thanks
Justin D.

Double clutching is not that hard as it requires you to let off the clutch when the shifter is in neutral and then depressing it before you grab your next gear!!! No a days most transmissions in tractor trailers (semis or what ever) don't need to be double clutched most of that was for the older two stick trannies!!!

Want to impress your driver tester?? Drive in in a truck with a two stick tranny and watch him give you a license quick!!!!! No one drives those trucks anymore as most are obsolete!!!

Also in the newer trucks and as you get better there is no need to use the clutch that much when upshifting thru the gears (If your REALLY WIMPY the trucks these days have auto transmissions)!!!!

The BIGGEST thing is to make sure your logs are done and you follow to the T the DOT laws regaurding the hours for driving, the monetary fines are BIG for violations!!!!!

Also make sure you get most endorsements such as Haz-Mat, tanker, doubles and so on, this will allow you to drive anything!!!!

And REMEMBER to inspect the truck EVERY TIME before you get behind the wheel as in most cases the fines are the drivers responsibility and if the DOT puts a shut down order on you the truck will not move until re- inspected!!!!!

Good luck, stay healthy, don't do stupid stuff (even in you car), keep your logs updated and drive with others in mind such as four wheelers that are smaller than you!!!!!

Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway??

Dirt is fine on the keyboard, but watchout for the drool as that will short it out!!!
