went back to see it today, it wasn't working, and had a differnt looking attachment. I think it is some type of magnet of some sort. There was also what looks to be steel plates on a barge next to it. 020 by Vin Schiano, on Flickr 019 by Vin Schiano, on Flickr WEEKS Marine | Cat 5110B long reach by Vin Schiano, on Flickr WEEKS Marine | Cat 5110B long reach by Vin Schiano, on Flickr WEEKS Marine | barge crane #571 by Vin Schiano, on Flickr WEEKS Marine | barge crane #572 by Vin Schiano, on Flickr WEEKS Marine | barge crane #500 by Vin Schiano, on Flickr

Looks like a submersible electro magnet to me. A standard scrap yard magnet would not work [for long ]in underwater conditions

WOW ! Excellent post Vinny. This is my kind of stuff. Absolutely no idea what that could be...although maybe some sort of vibratory thingy for pile release.
That's my best guess at least...
I'll do a search and see what I can find out.

Has nothing to do with the question but still worth posting {same machine}. Would make a nice custom 1/50 5110 model attachment. http://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/Massive-Forklift-Assists-With-Housing-Project-for-Fish/10955/

Thanks Eric, never thought of the idea that a normal magnet can not go underwater too long Down the page alittle and you can see how Tom Weeks got the idea to make the forklift attacent for the 5110b http://www.foleyinc.com/assets/uploads/pub-foley_newspaper_summer_2008.pdf
