Been a while since i've posted and can fully understand how jibtickler ended up with thousands of pictures ant not enough time to post.I'm lucky enough to be traveling around with our TC2800 at the moment and thought I'd share the weekends job with the forum. We lifted a 190t transformer from a ship onto a impressive girder trailer provided by ALE. Job was right on the button for the big TC using 99% capacity. We had to use the stinger to push the 300t of floating ballast out to 17m instead of the usual 15m and used maximum ballast for the crane.

Enjoy the pictures, I got some good ones Teeth

WOW some fantastic pics these pics have it all hh and big cranes
the old dock side cranes bring back some memories we had a thriving dock scene here in waterford one time all the dock cranes were made in ipswich .

those are great photos Gaz, its hard to believe that the crane is at 99% capacity, seems like it makes it look so simple, like its picking it up with ease!

thats also a great looking setup by ALE, i love that first prime mover, what type of truck is that? any model forms of it if anybody knows?

Why isn't the TC2800 closer to the ship ? Perhaps that part of the dock doesn't have the capacity to support the TC2800 ? Excellent pics. TFS

Thanks Gaz

DeWoc
it's a Unipower designed and built by ex-Scammell engineers. Unipower were a division of Alvis - a UK Defence contractor. it was the prototype for the UK replacement for the Scammell Commander tank transporter. In the end, the contract went to Oshkosh of USA and King Trailers.

Alstom bought the Unipower and then ALE bought out Alstom. It's been around as a HH tractor since 2004.

What are you running at the moment last time you post you where on the 1500.

The TC looks new or very well looked after.

Yes they do, but its not the most accurate representation, i've got one in the "to -do" corner

Compare this shot, with Gaz's pic above and compare where the unipower badge is on the prototype in relation to the model, The Prototype uses a high datum version where as the model uses the low datum as fitted to the british army bridgelayer units, it may only be a few mm out but it changes the whole stance as the air intakes behind the cab and ballast box are all scaled from it, it (in my humble opinion) the whole stance of the model

if it doesnt bother you then thats fine, but it annoys the living wotsits out of me!!, its going to take a big chunk of scratchbuilding to make it accurate,

Exactly that, you see the timbers, thats the the edge of the suspended quay. Each leg was putting down almost 250t on that side!

I did, November last year, did 6 months at Sarens and come back. Nothing wrong with Sarens at all just Ainscough suited me better (and paid me more Wink )

I pretty well much float from crane to crane as i'm needed, i'm still learning in the grand scale of things so getting a bit of time on just about everything. I'm on the LG1550 for a few weeks now, just had a few weeks on the TC and who knows what after. I'm hoping when all is said and done I end up on the TC, its a amazing crane and runs rings around LG.

Thanx for the comments, seems as I have half a second before i'm out in the dead of night lifting a 170t cable real onto a ship with the LG I'll post some pictures I got in the yard a few months ago.

TC2800 with 84m boom and 84m luffer! 200t in the tray just to pick the boom up.

Sky high!

and planted to the ground

Experience, training, knowledge, confidence and most important common sense needed to stich all that together cos you get it wrong and it ain't going to be pretty.

Trying to get it all in 1 shot is tough!

Lean the tower and capacity drops right down!

Luffer off and replaced with 138m main boom, with both the LG and TC rigged space was at a premium!

The bend is 'normal'!!!!

Again, 200t floating just to raise the boom!

Up and standing tall

Boom up and tray sits back down.

Anyway, I'll get some of the LG up soon as.

Enjoy
Gaz
