Here are a few pictures I took on my vacation time back in Idaho. Their has been quite a large fire burning along side one of the highways that runs up to the spot I camp at. The highway was closed when I went up Friday morning, on my return trip on Sunday afternoon I managed to capture some pictures and video of helicopters getting water out of the river nearby. I went back on Monday and caught a different sky crane at work. Three different Sikorsky S-64 Skycranes were used, two from Erickson Sky Cranes and one from Siller Bros. Inc. as well as a helicopter from a local company. Kudos to the pilots who did an awesome job. Hope you all enjoy the pics.

Awesome pics Oak!!! I love the ones you got of them hovering over the river loading!!!

I remember back in 1992 watching a Skycrane fly A/C units onto the roof of the mall by where we lived. They did renovations on one of the "anchor" stores of the mall and put in about 10 to 15 new units.

I'm a kid at heart, so I will play with any model construction vehicle from 1:87 scale to 1:1 scale!!!!

Age is a state of time NOT a state of mind!!

Thanks Dain! I really enjoyed watching them do their business!

I would really like to see a skycrane do some heavy lifting. I have only seen a few and they are usually just sitting at the airport. These were the first ones i saw in action and man was it impressive!

Superb Applause Applause

It must take quite a bit of skill to hold the helicopter in position when loading up with water from the river.

I was taking some photos of a S92 rescue helicopter that was landing an injured man a week ago and although I was approximately 40-50 feet away the downdraft was blowing me off my feet.

Those air cranes have always amazed me man. That was the first bird I ever saw fly a turn of logs. Fantastic photos.

cHEt, the sky crane that removed the Capital statue was named BUBBA after that job. The company I worked for used them to remove old and set new power poles at a mall in Victor, NY (East of Rochester). That Company was great to work with. They named it BUBBA because Clinton was pres at the time(The pilot told me this). They are amazing aircraft.

Chet,
The pilot can also sit behind the front seat(looking out the rear to operate the crane) and control the bird from there, so he can control the load and the chopper with everything in his view.

That is one versatile chopper Wes never knew that lucky to be near the real thing. I used to have a model with a mobile hospital that tucked nicely between the leg struts !Also have somewhere an old SKYCRANE toy with a working detailed console like a U-FLY. It flew on a thin wire filament lowered, raised, lifted even a spinning rotor and everything one rare toy ! When toys were cool !
