I've finally decided on what I'm going to build this Winter. It is my interpretation of this old time crane barge. I've started on the iron work for the stiff leg derrick today. It is made from some of the Manitowoc 555 parts I bought this Summer. Here is some of the work: Some of the bolts are made from brass nails I had left over from a ship model project. They are just the right diameter for 0-80 thread. 1/2" nail becomes a 24" carriage bolt. I started with the boom top iron work. I'm using a short piece of boom stock for a jig. I'll start on the derrick mast tomorrow.
