My friend Chuck is currently starting a projet to customise a Joal 375 to make it into a local demolition company's 375. But as we both looked at it, the boom on the real deal seemed shorter than what's on the Joal model, but yet longer than a ME boom. This question was just reminded to me by the pictures Cattech posted in his 375 topic, the 375 he posted seems to have that "medium" boom I'm talking about. I know of 2 variants: standard and mass boom. But would there really be a third one in the middle, or is it an optical illusion due to a design mistake from Joal? Of course the boom replicated by Joal is the one I'm calling standard, yet, the one on St-Pierre's 375 is longer than the ME but looks shorter than this one... Still, I'm pretty sure it's not a mistake from Joal because we had a 375 at the auction in September that had the same long boom. I'm now very curious to know more about what was available as booms for those 375's! Please accept my deepest excuses for the confusion, I tried my best to put my questionning thoughts in order. Chuck's to be modified 375: René St-Pierre's 375 L (picture taken by a member of my forum): And the 375 we had at the auction:

The boom on the demo 375 is definitely shorter - the cylinder is mounted slightly behind the lights rather than in front of them, but not as far back as on the ME boom. Here's a better picture of it - definitely between the "standard" and ME boom.

Thanks Dave, I'm not dreaming then. Now, how long is that boom? Gotta have to build one!

I'm half asleep typing this but compare your 375 stick and boom to your CCM Cat 385, the 375 is bigger as in 1/48 vs. 1/50.

Quick google search on the 375, ritchiespecs gives the 375 three boom options mass, general purpose, and reach booms. The Joal model comes with the longest boom and stick offered. http://www.ritchiespecs.com/specification?type=&category=Hydraulic+Excavator&make=Caterpillar&model=375&modelid=92911

I thought the difference was in the fact the one has the second member shear (replacing the stick) and the model others have the shear in place of the bucket. I know sometimes the looks of the same excavator and boom look different with not having the stick in there. Just my opinion though.

I'm a kid at heart, so I will play with any model construction vehicle from 1:87 scale to 1:1 scale!!!!

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

I get you there, we also thought about it, but ended realizing the boom really was different.
