ASAM models (previously Alan Smith models) - they have a website. The models are 1/48 white metal - available as a kit or ready-built.

The Unipower is still working here but the FAUN Elefant's have been in South Africa for a few years.

Strange... As far as I know the Unipower is a completely UK built truck. But why does it have the steering wheel on the left side of the cab instead of the right side? I never noticed this before. I'd love the Elefant though. Might have to try and get my hands on one of those kits.

1. It was a prototype tank transporter so would have probably been designed to work overseas.
2. A lot of UK HH trucks are LHD as the drivers like to be close to the kerb - although on that basis, Euro trucks would all be RHD! And
they aren't!

The photos above show three different trucks; two with the MAN style cab and the other with the the other style (and I've seen numerous photos of those). Didn't Terex make an attempt at marketing this line of trucks a long time ago with both the M and S series? Were there differences in the M series other than just the cab? Do you have any knowledge of why these trucks were passed in favor of the Oshkosh M1070?? Are there any S series units with the old Scammel cab still in the UK?

ALE P 547 HNT tow truck is an Alvis-Unipower MH 8875 8x8/4 unit, built late 90s as a tractor truck for a TST 70 MD 6/2 6-line Nicolas tank transport semi-trailer. That tank transport combination was tested in UK and Middle-East but never purchased, neither by UK Army nor ME armies. The prototype was then left for a while in Unipower premises where it was found by ALE, "restored" and put back to work as a tow truck.
Other tow trucks seen above (NUX 594 P and NUX 595 P) are FAUN Elefant SLT 50-2 8x8/4 trucks, previously used as German Army tank transporter tractors. ALE bought a few second-hand and equipped them with home-made ballast boxes.

Some sources indicate that it is 1/46 and other 1/48 - I have one and it is big but seems about close to 1/48 - 1/50. It is the red and silver civilian and not the military variation though. Asam models from the u.k I have one, bought it last year I had to wait for about six months and only in kit form
