Go ro flea markets, thrift or second hand stores, or variety stores and look for cheap costume jewlery that has chains, such as neclkaces, etc...There are a million styles and hopefully you can find one that will work...Good luck

I bought a 10 yrd roll of jewelry making chain that scaled out to 1:50th. Same chain we use for cable weight on clamshells and our sea anchors. only problem is, its bright silver. Its all packed up with all my models since the move or id take a few photos.

Bright silver - no problem, just drop in some paint stripper.

I just have some cheap jewelry chain. I have it in both gray and brown. Looks alright for 1:50 scale

Cornwall model ship supply has several types of chain. Several companies have different styles. Just search the model boat and ship fittings.

I had some choker chain from my slaughtering knife pouch years ago but it is too small the links.
the larger choker chain is too thin links too long.

I'm still yet to look around in shops in my town be on the weekend.

Try a jewellers supply store where the ladies get their bits and pieces…they are a gold mine for our supplies of chain, cable, slings etc.

In the states Hobby Lobby has tons of chain variants. Is there a come decor/craft store equivalent in Australia? (it's been almost ten years since I've been there.....)

I'll post a picture when I get a chance of what I have made.

Dan

1:1 or 1:50, I am still in awe.

Really close to the 1:1, I like the idea. Now, I'll need to change mines too... Teeth

Too bad we are on opposite faces of the earth, we could have made a great dio together at an expo with what I have in preparation: I've just got started doing my NZG LR1300 in WELDEX livery. I did some boom sections, a hook, and the ballast counterweights. Moving slow, though. Summer time here,

We could have build the port dio just as in Paul's pictures last spring. Eh?

yeh i'm very limited what i can do. All the model shops i knew in Adelaide , australia don't exist anymore , local toyworld here my town cant get it , cant get balsa wood anymore modeling has seemed to realy died here in my state. compared to 25yrs ago when i was right into scratch building 1:24/25 trucks etc.
I Got no model shop close , only place i can find plastruct online is in the UK on ebay which is a killer in $

I'd like to build a harbor with a dry dock & also a oil rig platform being made Smiley with one or two anchor handling tugs.
why i had my hand up for a couple of your salvage pullers.

2 Weldex cranes i'd love Liebherr to release in 1:50

LR 11350 weldex with power boom.
LR 1600/2 -w Narrow Track.

Oops, it seems I missed some of the posts here but I think you've got pretty close to it there Brett with the galv and sprayed chain.

The chain in my photos is for an offshore oil FPSO in the North Atlantic 80 miles west of where I live.

If we were splitting hairs the chain in the shipways link has a connecting section in the middle whereas the galv chain you found is like for like in shape.

But the fact the shipways chain is 1:48 scale is pretty much perfect for any 1:50 project and it does look great.
