When we all saw photos of the prototype from the Toy Fair, I thought it showed promise even though there were flaws. It's obvious now that these were not corrected, and that's a real shame. The real tragedy is that there seems to be a distinct lack of knowledgeable people approving these pieces. The biggest flaws are in the boom and stick. The hydraulic cylinder mounting points circled in the photo below are actually cavities on the real machine and the pins are recessed. I looked quickly at the Liebherr site, but the images they show computer drawings and not photographs. Overall I really like what I'm seeing, but like with so many models before; why can't they go that extra little bit to get it right?? The secondary thing is that the track pads should have small holes in the centers as shown below. That should be an easy fix with a jig and drill press though. Photo credits to BF24 and PTP respectively.

Some people are never happy! It looks fantastic and people still pic up on silly little details like that!

Gee…and here was I thinking that a scale model was a miniature replica (to a point) of the real thing, I don't mind the engine not working(or even replicated on the model as long as the engine bay doors don't open and a big empty space is there), but the visible mistakes on the outside should be minimised to the point of being negligible at best…not really hard to achieve either, especially in this instance.

I plan on buying one, but I want to see the Ocean Traders version first. I would like one with "Ocean Traders" written on it to go with my trucking fleet.

I finally got my hands on one of the R970s. It has tonnes of detail and it looks amazing. On the "downside" it's just not as solid or heavy as a Conrad model and the stick on my one has a little play/looseness in it(seems to be where the rivets attach the stick to the body). Does that detract from the model?. Not really, but I like my models solid and heavy. So, is it worth getting?. Yes, for detail, looks and value it's a fantastic model. Nice photos Paul, There is a bit of side to side play in mine too but nothing too bad.

Thanks, yes it's just as you describe, a little side to side play.

Sadly mine had the same and was pretty loose. Also the boom and stick cylinders would not even hold mine up for a very short time. Guess that's what I get for getting the first round.
