I've just finished a few modifications to a white 996, roughly replicating the Thiess branded version on display at a show some years ago (Bauma? - pictures found when googling!).
I painted the tracks, added decals, made a roof guard and window louvres, tinted cab glass, painted interior, pin caps (still a few to do), and lifting eyes. Some railings need repairing, and one day I'll add detail to the hydraulics.

Just had a week off it so I dont just pile in and rush it.

Trouble is I work away from home all week so I only get the weekends to do a bit. I like to hop from project to project so I don't overdo it on any single one.

I need to get the dremel out on it this weekend to grind down the moulded on pipework and cut out the sides to mount the PC1100 engine gills.

Ha, I'm in the process of having my own 996 changed to the exact same spec machine, & here's me thinking it was going to be unique.

I couldn't find many pics of the launch machine though, even my request on here fell on deaf ears.

Yours looks very convincing though.

Aha! I look forward to seeing yours John. Will it have the full works - hydraulics, thinner railings, all the detail etc? Mmmmmmmm

I'm not actually doing my own work on mine, ( I am busy on my own scratch build project at the moment) it's being done by a very skilled artisan well known in the uk for super detailing 996's... Mainly the additional cab details as per your own, additional decals, hydro work & changing the plastic side access ladder for something more realistic. I hope to get it back spring time next year, so you will have to wait for pics I'm afraid.

Looks really well done! The yellow Thiess 996 shovel and the KPC backhoe and shovel are some of only a few pieces that remain in my mining collection now. ASAM L2350 and the original CAT 797 are the other two.

Seeing photos like this almost reignites the fire for collecting the mining stuff again Smile
