The search function is not working so i am posting this on here to see if i can get an answer. I am new to the cranes (dirt guy) and i was wondering if there was a certain musky master that you use for replacement cable. I got a crane off ebay and the string is very sticky and does not want to unreel off the drum too well and i was wanting to change it out. Also, can i pick this up at my local fishing supply place?
Thanks,
Zach

we use Cortland Musky Master black braided fishing line. You can use 18lb for the small cranes and 27lb for the larger.

good luck

This stuff REALLY works well - it sits in the sheaves better and doesn't tangle like the cheap stuff you get with the models. A little pricy - I paid about $75 for 1200 yards, but that will go a long way. I understand it is available in smaller quantities also. Converting to brass sheaves is another good customizing idea.

You can also buy it from Pastika's Sport Shop or just do a google search for it.

Dan

1:1 or 1:50, I am still in awe.

Gentlemen,

"Musky Master" fishing line is a speciality fishing line developed for fisherman that catch the species of fish called a Muskie. Muskie fish are a cold water fish found in northern climates. Chances are if you do not live in a northern climate and do not have Muskie in your lakes, your local store is not going to carry "Musky Master". If they sell Corland products, they may be willing to order it for you, but why pay a middle man?

I have used spider wire braided for my small crane (terex) and my P&H dragline. no problems to date.

The fastest and easiest place to buy Musky Master is from the manufacturer - Cortland. Called in one day, had it the next (in the same time zone).

Anyone have a good line on the 1200yd roll? I'm sick of buying the small one. I buy three at a time and am out again.

Standard rule of thumb for using Musky Master is 18# test on cranes under 200 ton and 27# on cranes 200+ tons lifting capacity. Like a Grove GMK 5130 would get the 18# test line and an AC 200 would get the 27# test line.

I have a couple spools of each but haven't gone thru them that fast. The spools I have are 100 foot ones and I use it for a lot of stuff. I paid about $10 a spool for the 18# and $102 for the 27#.

Cortland usually only sells the big spools from their factory but yes look for it online and price shop. Oh and Gander Mtn, Cabela's and bass pro don't generally carry Musky Master as it is too specific a fishing line, I know, I've checked them first!!!!

Musky Master this is where I got mine from. Rollie and Helen are really great!! They didn't have all that I needed so they gave me a call to see if I still needed it and let me know as soon as they got it in it would be shipped. They also have the best prices!!

Dain

I'm a kid at heart, so I will play with any model construction vehicle from 1:87 scale to 1:1 scale!!!!

Age is a state of time NOT a state of mind!!
