WORTH WAITING FOR!! CCM knocked this one out of the Park. These are right out of the box. The 983 is at the top of my list (as a real machine and a model). I hauled and operated a few of these, and they are awesome. A D8 with a bucket loader! The only issue I have with the cab model, is the fence on top of the bucket is plastic. I guess we are not going to get away from that nowadays. Also, I think the work lights are a little small, the housing looks flat and should be a larger diameter. (awful picky for a very nice model!)) The NZG 983 bucket is all metal. There is a size difference, the NZG being 1/50 and the CCM at 1/48. I did not notice the stacks on both machines were not straight when I took the pictures. With a little (VERY CAREFULL) tweaking, they are now straight. I plan on putting a winch, demo bucket, and glass protection on the cab model. Ken

Mine should be on its way sooner than later. I only bought the open cab version, I didn't like the other as much. It'll be a masterpiece!

Ken, does the cab open and tilt back on the closed version?

kokosing Const Co wrote:Ken, does the cab open and tilt back on the closed version? Hi. I did not try it, but it appears to be pinned in the front and rear. If you were to remove the front pins, I don't know if there is enough clearance on the rear mounts to swing the cab back. Ken

Would this be hauled better with a 2x2x2? I think I remember this weighing 98,000 lbs. But since I don't have a 2x2x2, I like your display. Thanks.

Quinella, According to the Caterpillar Performance Handbook, the 983B track loader was produced between 1978 and 1982, the approximate operating weight was 78,530 lbs (39.27 tons). Well within the 55 ton capacity of the Rogers Ultima Series lowboy. Now is it legal? That of course varies state by state. Randy M. Smolenack RMSmodels@aol.comrandy.m.smolenack.civ@mail.mil

Quinella, where have you been hiding?. Randy is correct, the 983 is roughly 80,000 Lbs. The tractor/trailer weighs in at about 52,000Lbs. = 132000 Gross. 8 axles (4 + 4) is good for 20,000 in most States, 152000 - 160000. Some States, a quad on the trailer is down to 65-72, still able scale the load. Where it is sitting on the trailer, is where I would load it. Ken

Hello Ken. Thanks for the kind remarks. I have been dealing with back issues in between heart attacks. everything is fine, but the darn arthritis. I no longer collect much. But when CCM came out with these bad boys, I had to get one. This and the D9g and D8s are still my favorites. CCM did a terrific job. I hope there are not any problems like the D9g. Anyway, I like your setup. I thought the loader weighed a little more. With the multi shank ripper is should, but would the machine be disassembled to haul the ripper separately? Keep up your usual good work and thanks. CAW

I would haul the 983 with the ripper on, makes the machine about 83000, the same range as a Cat 3336 or Deere 350. Ken
