The two Hitachi 870 excavators is are some of my favorite models in my collection: a superbly detailed 1:50 jewel of a model. As great is the model is, I wished that it came with a quick coupler to make it even more of a versatile model for fitting hammers, buckets, etc. Since I had no luck finding a ready-made coupler, I tried my hand of scratchbuilding one.

A few afternoons work, first reseaching the 1:1 item on the internet, then using that information, I went to work. Here is the finished item, prior to painting.

Sometimes doing little projects are just as satisfying as doing a major one, that adds just a bit more functionality to a model. I plan to make a few little attachments for these models.

That looks great! Its my favourite model and to me only one way to improve it and that would be short dipper and boom and a big ass muckshift bucket on her to maximise production

Very nice work, I need to do the same. I am converting one to a Deere 870 and it turned out to be more work than I thought.
The one thing I wish the model had was the auxiliary lines. WSI went NUTS on this model, the amount of detail hidden under the body that is not visible is beyond belief.
