Hi guys,
It's been a while since I had a big truck crane and I'm getting a really itchy trigger finger again... the problem for me is that I just cannot choose between the above two models. I see plusses and minuses for both, and despite leaning more one way than the other I just want some opinions from you guys, many of whom own (and collect) both models.

If you had to choose one or the other to be your "only" large truck crane on dispay, which would it be and why?

Thanks in advance - I appreciate any input.

11200 with jib, beat any other.

I know the question's been asked on here previously, and I value Paul R's opinion, and I recall him saying that he would recommend the 11200. He has quite a few of both, in just about every available livery, so if anyone would know, he would.

I'd say you should consider how, and where, you intend to display the crane. I think the 1500 looks awesome in transport mode, and the 11200 looks silly without its boom, and silly with the superlift on the boom. If you have the space to put the boom up with jib, then the 11200 is unbeatable. However, if I had to choose only 1, it would be the 1500. It just seems like it's more versatile of a crane / model. My $0.02.

Thanks guys. John you've hit the nail on the head - they both have their strengths which is what makes choosing very difficult. I have a lot of space to display and take advantage of the versatility of both models, and it's likely I'll chop and change the configuration regularly. The LTM1500 is considerably cheaper, more compact and has a number of advantages over the larger model (thinner boom sections, all-metal boom cylinders etc.), but there are some things I just cannot ignore about it based on what I've heard and seen. I don't like the outriggers on it... they look cheap and nasty, bending upwards under load. Same with the axles and the way the wheels sit crooked, which is a big minus for me. But that being said, the model still looks absolutely fabulous. My biggest worry is that if I go for the 1500 I'll regret not getting the 11200, and vice versa... LOL!

Davie,
John is right and if push came to shove, I'd choose the 11200 over the 1500. I do really like the 1500 and it has some fabulous detail, but it's a shame about the outriggers. They can be a little fragile also but that comes hand in hand with small details.

The 11200 is a solid model and is big! It does lack some detail and only has the one telescopic position for each section, though the 50% holes can easily be drilled out.

But I guarantee one thing - whichever one you buy you will one day end up with the other!

Regards,

Paul R

11200 gives way more features than the 1500. You get a small hydraulic jib, and a heavy lift head. You can pose the crane loading the boom as it has its own outriggers. The 11200 is way more robust and has an incredible optional 90 meter luffing jib which is way higher quality than wsi jibs (disappointed in my 1350's). The 1500 may have more detail however it is a lot more fragile. I find the 1500 to be a tad overpriced compared to the 11200. But you will have both soon enough anyway to see for yourself.

Most of the 1500's also come with a 50m and 84m boom so equal that option on the 11200. 1500 doesn't need its own outriggers as it is usually carried on the crane itself. There was/is a luffer available that matches the 1:1 version. It is made partly of plastic but mine is quite nice in that's it's light so can be posed easily.

Definitely agree about being fragile though.

Thanks again for the pointers folks - I really appreciate it. Paul, I think you're right that if I get one I'll almost certainly get the other at a later date anyways, and with the pound being really weak against the euro at the moment I'm going to be paying above board for the 11200 which makes the 1500 a more attractive option (currently I can get the 1500 for £299 and would have to shell out around £385 for the 11200, both factory livery).

That being said, I'm still leaning towards the 11200 probably because I already owned it and it's just a fabulous piece of kit.

Standard Liebherr colours, considerably cheaper than any others, and to be honest I like the yellow a lot and there's plenty scope for changing it at some point (if I feel up to the task!). The choice now for LTM 11200 liveries is very limited, and I think the only one I'd have seriously considered is Marwijk.

Good job on the 11200. You will love it. If you like the yellow version you could have got a Max Bogl for even cheaper than a factory version from some dealers! I agree the Marwijk is a nice livery as well.

Prices are very different here across the pond - the cheapest company livery version I could find was significantly more expensive than the standard Liebherr version, to the tune of around $100 (equivalent). Since I'm hopping to get the luffer at some point it makes sense to spend a bit less on the main model!

Even though I've already had this I'm no less excited to be getting it again... perhaps even more so, because I know exactly what to expect!

I just started collecting cranes myself. It will be a while before I have many as I want to collect Canadian/American livery cranes. My first, the Bay Crane 1350. At the open house of our host I ordered the All Crane 1500. Would love to see a 1750 All Crane or Bay Crane in 1:50, the one in 1:87 that WSI has released just doesn't do anything for me.

Yes I own a lot of Norscot Cat models they remind me of my many good years working for a Cat Dealer. Going out to the back forty after work playing with used equipment just moving dirt around

Well you can guess how surprised I was when this turned up at about midday (the box, not the child, heh) - it took only two days from Germany and I didn't pay for expedited shipping.

And I'm extremely pleased that this (like my first) has been painted black at the base of the superlift frame... Senn AG is a distinct possibility once more, and a very easy conversion from factory colours.
