I'm building a rope shovel from pine, mdf and plastic card. It's not a model of a real machine (I'm making it up as I go along) so not super-accurate, but fun to do and I'm trying to put a bit of effort in to finishing it off to a high standard. The mechanisms will work, just need to sort out a ratchet winder for the ropes. Anything available so I don't have to build one?

Here's progress so far -

This is going to be cool! What era are you going for? Current? Early diesel? Steam?

Thanks! Glad you've got the vision too! It's going to be current era. I'm thinking a sort of Volvo colour scheme - dark rich yellow, dark grey undercarriage/tracks, and black boom, bucket and cab. Maybe orange railings, or maybe black.

Wow, I didn't realize how massive this was until you put the figure in the photo!

A few more updates.
Lots of railings to do next, plus the cab glass. Undercarriage will be black (so it's going to end up looking very similar to a P&H colour scheme, but with red railings).

I spy a Meccano Erector component in there Teeth I like the resourcefulness in this build. Some day I'd like to do a spare parts round up and build something from it.

Very cool. I ran a P&H 2800 XPB for a few years.

Yep, the first paint job was a darker yellow, like Demag yellow. I thought it looked a bit naff, so lightened it to this, but it's looking more and more like a P&H shovel!
There are bits and bobs from all over the place in here - kid's toys, meccano, phone parts, camera parts, Joal PC1100 parts (of course - all my customs do).

I've got to start thinking about a name/manufacturer so I can make my decals. One of my previous concoctions was called a Titan KX900 excavator. I like the Titan name, so maybe this could be a Titan 6600 speed shovel.
Anyone else got any interesting and suitable names? I'm open to suggestions!

I liked the Titan a lot, but that's not the same paint scheme though. I think Scotland Shovels, or some thing that involves your name might be cool. I really like the way this is turning out.

Now this is unreal! If you put this in to production you'd sell every one of them. The railings are absolutely perfect.

Yes, very well done.
The cab looks great up close. Love the cat walks and railings.
