Now I'm not trying to be a buzz kill on this project, earlier I said that there really isn't much around the wheel to be seen. the city of New York sky line is around 30 to forty miles away from the placement of the wheel. Maybe the night viewing will be more forgiving but as for being on the thing in the daytime, forget about it!

Seeing as it's impossible to see more than 3-4 miles at ground level I think it highly unlikely that it's that far away?

From the wheel location to the tip of Manhattan is exactly 5 miles , is a bit less then forty. Been in NYC once and took the staten islands ferry and in my memory it was not that long to get to the other side. Also it seems a bit strange to me that they would build a project this size and find out after the opening that the view is not worth it. Also it's not the wheel itself and the view that is so interesting for most of us , but the cranes are. Although the engineering itself is also interesting and impressive.
