Been doing a bit of research on weathering lately and decided to give it another go, I have always had a hard time trying to get the track frames and undercarriage to look correct on logging gear. I found some new to me products at the local hobby shop and so far I'm excited with the results. I still need to do the boom and stick but I think I'm going to call the bucket, undercarriage and counter weight done. I've found that military modelers have some great resources that cross over pretty well to heavy equipment. I remember seeing some amazing work on this forum a few years ago and Dan has done some more recently, I'm hoping to kick up another thread for tips, tricks and general discussion of the topic. Also might want to check out model railroad hobby shops for weathering materials.

Jason The model rr guys at the local hobby shop were talking about the MIG products. They just started carrying the Vallejo stuff so thats what I'm trying out now.

Did this weathering today on the 6020 undercarriage  You can see the oil on the drive motors, rest is mostly dirt , base is dry brushed acrylic  Jason

Jason- I'm excited to see how your display comes out because that 6020B is turning out really awesome! I am still working on my 470, used testors gray and metallic silver on the tracks to begin with then an old rust and finished the tracks with a new rust and added some dust & dirt to the rest of the machine. Operator has dirty boots.  the ISM tracks take weathering really well IMHO  Still working on how I want to finish up the grease points. I think this machine would be on an auto greaser so they'll be likely a bit dirtier than something thats greased once a day.

Jason are you using an alclad or spaz stix type of paint to get that polished wear look? I might have to bust out the airbrush for testing now. That turned out over the top man!

Alcad then matte finished then weathering wash. Its quite a process

I have used flat black paint with a small brush for old grease.
