Update. I see now why the rivets are not painted on the model. If you look at a picture of the real machine the pins are not painted black.

One reason why I changed my mind on buying it, the prototype showed painted rivets and as you said the box does also. Total let down there! It's an easy fix but you're not going to get that factory finish paint job.
