What do you think of this? L-1850 LoaderNew paint job of course, but what is all that detail for under the driver's side cab? Chuck

All the detail under the cab represents the new electric gear incorporated into Letourneau loaders since the last model was produced.

Chuck, The Q told me it was a stainless steel grill system for an outdoor patio. He also mentioned how good well done sheep can be cooked on it. You understand he knows as much about heavy iron as he does about the forward axle that lifts on the Nelson ramp trailer. Steve

Looks interesting, never had the chance to get the previous model and only saw photos it so I am unsure of how much of a difference there is between those and this one, but I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection, doubt that will happen though. Flickr Photostream

I know that Q is very preoccupied with sheep. Not sure what that is all about.
The model detail looks fantastic from the photos.
FYI - these models are already on the water and due late February. As there is new tooling and paint, I think they will sell well...
Only 500 pieces are available to the public worldwide. Make sure you get your order into DHS soon!
Cheers!

Chuck The addition of some extra details does not warrant the major price increase! I would bet money that the majority of these will just sit in a warehouse unsold.

I think it looks absolutely brilliant!!! I would love one, but I have a mortgage and a new baby on the way, so unfortunately it will pass me by. It really is fantastic to see Weiss Brothers producing this and the 4100XPC again. They are superb models in every way. Well done WB!

Thanks! As if life wasn't crazy enough. Oh well, you only live once. As for modelmaking, I'm just not getting much done at the mo. Hasn't stopped me accumulating new projects though!! The list grows. I have a P&H 4100XPC on the bench at the mo, requiring a few parts - left side steps and ladder/cage assembly. Unlikely, but if anyone has spares lying around, get in touch!!

Based on what I have seen from an order standpoint, Wesserhutte is incorrect.
There are only 500 pieces being made - the new tooling had to be extrapolated over that number of models - drives the cost up!
LOL

Chuck Well, 500 small bucket versions and 500 large bucket versions add up to 1000 pieces in total for the collector market. It hasn't been mentioned how many were produced for Komatsu for internal use and distribution? Only time will tell if they are a sales success or not. It can also be noted that there seems to be plenty of NOS original TWH L-1850s still unsold. "extrapolated"? I think the word you're looking for is amortized...

I think I was drinking that day and incorrectly used the word "extrapolated". Sorry about that as "amortized" is correct.
There were 500 total models made for the collector market - 350 with the large bucket and 150 with the small bucket. Half of the run has been sold already.
Also - TWH made 2000 of the LeTourneau L1850 models.

Chuck Your information does not jibe with what is posted on the Weiss Brothers website!? Regarding the original TWH L-1850s; do you have a breakdown of the 2000 pieces into the 8 variations of that model? That would be very interesting to know.

I always thought that this model was too cheap for the quality and detail level when it was first released back in 2009. When you take into consideration new tooling and packaging cost + the increase in model production cost over the last ten years, it’s not a bad price considering the small production qty.
