As someone who is a primary collector of car models and can get fairly decent ones from the likes of Maisto and Bburago for 15 USD, it is heard to understand why 1/50 model makers do not have a budget line to attract new collectors to the fold. I used to consider Norscot as Maisto, WSI as Autoart and Drake probably as the CMC of the 1:50 arena.
Why cannot the likes of WSI have some plain, unliveried trucks? They might be a market for them with customers like me. They can definitely cut costs without the need for exquisite tampo printing, licensing and other added costs just some nice metallic colors maybe. I have a Mammoet Actros 8x8 but I wouldnt mind a plain Jane version at all. They made the military version but finding one for a acceptable price even when new was impossible.
I can understand that the costs to make the intricate parts on 1/50 models and the time to assemble them would be more than larger models but I wish to see something in the 40-50 USD range where I can just go and buy a metallic blue Scania 6 x 4 without having to worry breaking the bank.
And while I am on a rant, this forum deserves a big makeover too! My address bar doesn't read as DHS but as 208.106.248.173blahblahblah. Not to mention that it isn't https either. I doubt anyone can find the forum anymore if they google it. The search says page doesn't exist. Even the old bookmarks of some individual threads like Paul R's and Lorramine are dead. I agree there will be costs involved but newer influx of members could help to cover costs if they become customers of the parent site of the forum. Maybe adverts would help the cause too.
This forum is a treasure trove of information for English speaking collectors and it shouldnt go to waste in the face of useless competition like facebook which definitely offers a easy to use platform. But there you just shoot and run with no follow up or information exchange. Hopefully a revamp of this forum will help to bring back former members too and make it as exciting as when I first joined it

As social media like Facebook gets flooded with more and more ads it can be difficult to keep up with model topics that you want to follow. This could be an opportunity for the forums to make a come back. It's not as easy to share photos here but it is a lot easier and quicker to navigate topics. My only hang up has been third party media hosting. Having an Imgur account or otherwise to be able to post makes it a hassle.
I have to say over the years I’ve learned a lot on the forums, be it custom model building, diorama, etc. Would be nice to see more builds and general hobby discussion like what Hansebube forum has going on.

I think brands such as Corgi fill this gap and more recently, Cavallino are now offering model trucks at more affordable prices. Quote:Why cannot the likes of WSI have some plain, unliveried trucks? I don't know about American trucks but WSI have always had their White Line models at more affordable prices. Drake also have plain liveries but I don't think these are too much cheaper than liveried ones. Quote:And while I am on a rant, this forum deserves a big makeover too! I update when I can just to keep it live but if it is not updated from time to time and falls of the end, then there appears to be no way to retrieve it. I also miss the days of the old forum. Used to be a lot of excitement around new models but this year, no talk whatsoever about new releases. WSI's LR 1400, R998 SME, 9150's to name but a few have largely gone unnoticed. I don't know what it would take to fix it but I think that the way the forum is hosted now is not helping at all. I am not ITV expert so do not understand what has changed or why it has chnaged but I susopect it has to do with cost among other things. Paul R

I don't think WSI makes the white line trucks anymore. The last unliveried truck I got from them that stirred any kind of excitement in me was the Scania 6x4 143H. Corgi was a good starters choice but they don't give that satisfaction when you have bitten the apples from the likes of WSI or even NZG. @Paul R, I have since bookmarked your page but some of the older pics do come with broken links. I looked at Hansebube and was very overwhelmed by the sheer size of the forum. Will have to doom scroll that one on this weekend. But since DHS was my first 1/50 forum, this has some kind of comfort level that others don't provide.

I still look at and use the forum, so thanks to those that still contribute. For me personally, my sales as an artist have slumped since Covid, so my disposable income is practically non-existant. Add the ludicrous price hikes of food and the cost of living (Britain has gone from being one of the cheapest places to THE MOST EXPENSIVE in a matter of six or seven years) and I just don't have any time or money for modelmaking or purchasing. Even crappy used Ebay purchases have had to be stopped - they add up! That said, I managed to buy a Conrad Liebherr 576 wheel loader yesterday for 99p with free postage. It needs new railings, so perhaps I can manage that sometime. All the best, Jamie

I try to keep posting on here. Where else are you going to get "hundreds" of views on your models. Be nice if there was a bigger participation though...I use Flickr as we keep most of our pictures there. For me, it is very easy to make albums and post pictures. I use a desktop computer which makes it a whole lot easier than a phone.
