From 25/08 to 16/11/1944, the US Army organize a logistical operation to supply goods and armament to Allied Armies, the "Red Ball Express"' (first from St Lô to Chartres, then between St Lô and Soissons/Sommesous, following Armies move to the East):  2 Red Ball Express vehicles:   - left: General Motors Co CCKW 353 6x6/2 truck, dropside body loaded with 134 Magnatex Ltd petrol jerricans and a rolled tarpaulin (Solido/Hachette model being modified (*)), - right: General Motors Co CCKW 353 6x6/2 truck, sheeted dropside body carrying 14 petrol barrels (Solido model being modified, modified Corgi drums (*)). The map is issued from "les Routes de la Liberté" N. Aubin, Ed. Histoire & Collections, Note (*); glazing was added on both trucks, axle/transmission systems to be added, the 2nd GMC had a tarpailin added on its dropside body with a repainted tarpaulin added on its cab (originating from a Verem model), drums were glued on a support and repainted. There are several road accidents on the Red Ball Express (narrow roads, overtime...). The US Army assign there as well their usual wreckers:   General Motors Co CCKW 353 Lot 7 6x6/2 truck fitted with a 12.7mm machine-gun and a dropside body with traveling chain hoist on wrecker beam (Solido model being modified(*)),   Note (*): the model received a glazing, a repainted cab tarpaulin and a Verem Lot7 beam. I don't have any Britains military truck and I don't think that any other models collectors I know have one: are they 1/50-1/48, which is common to our collections?

The US Army install mobile anti-aircraft weapons all along the Red Ball Express Highway:    White MGMC M16 half-track truck fitted with a front winch and a Frary & Clark M45 anti-aircraft device equipped with 4x12.7mm machine-guns (Solido model(*) being modified),  Note (*): front wheels model were changed to 1st generation Solido ones and turret guns (fragile) were consolidated. A front axle/transmission assembly is to be added to the truck. Regards.. Guy
