From 25/08 to 16/11/1944, the US Army organize a logistical operation to supply goods and armament to Allied Armies, the "Red Ball Express"' (first from St Lô to Chartres, then between St Lô and Soissons/Sommesous, following Armies move to the East): 2 Red Ball Express vehicles: - left: General Motors Co CCKW 353 6x6/2 truck, dropside body loaded with 134 Magnatex Ltd petrol jerricans and a rolled tarpaulin (Solido/Hachette model being modified (*)), - right: General Motors Co CCKW 353 6x6/2 truck, sheeted dropside body carrying 14 petrol barrels (Solido model being modified, modified Corgi drums (*)). The map is issued from "les Routes de la Liberté" N. Aubin, Ed. Histoire & Collections, Note (*); glazing was added on both trucks, axle/transmission systems to be added, the 2nd GMC had a tarpailin added on its dropside body with a repainted tarpaulin added on its cab (originating from a Verem model), drums were glued on a support and repainted. To be continued. Guy

There are several road accidents on the Red Ball Express (narrow roads, overtime...). The US Army assign there as well their usual wreckers: General Motors Co CCKW 353 Lot 7 6x6/2 truck fitted with a 12.7mm machine-gun and a dropside body with traveling chain hoist on wrecker beam (Solido model being modified(*)), Note (*): the model received a glazing, a repainted cab tarpaulin and a Verem Lot7 beam. Axles/transmission assemblies are to be built, with dropside body folders and cabinet, as the example below: Picture from "Le GMC Cargo..." D. Andres, Ed. Histoire & Collections. Regards. Guy

Craig,
I don't have any Britains military truck and I don't think that any other models collectors I know have one: are they 1/50-1/48, which is common to our collections?
I hope it helps. Guy

In West Germany, towing and positioning of a concrete pump on a construction site: Mercedes-Benz 2638LK 6x4/2 tipper fitted with a Gergen GHK 18 hydraulic hooklift equipment (modified(*) Conrad model) and equipped with a hooklift mobile Gergen tipping unit (Conrad model), loaded with 12 Sodirel Symos road dividers (Siku elements), towing a Putzmeister BSA 140000 HD concrete pump on a 1-axle trailer (Conrad model), Note (*): the Conrad truck had a coupling device added on its rear fender. There are also sometimes good news. In spite of being stamped 1/43 under the chassis, this model is in fact.. reproduced in a 1/50 scale (1/4951 to be precise, according to my own measurements): Cadillac Escalade II 4x4/2 cross-country car (modified(*) Del Prado model), Note (*): the connecting device (fixed on the chassis) between the model and its presentation plate was saw-off. Similarly, the sliding recovery flatbed produced by Siku on its Atego model in a 1/55 scale has exactly the width of a CEV recovery flatbed in a 1/50 scale. IT was therefore moved to a 1/50 Siku Atego: - Mercedes-Benz Atego 1629 KN 4x2/2 recovery truck fitted with a CEV P 500G sliding/tipping flatbed with winch (Siku model being modified(*)), - Cadillac Escalade II 4x4/2 cross-country car (modified(*) Del Prado model), Notes (*): - the 1/50 Siku model had its hydraulic crane and tipping body removed. It received Corgi Toys wheels, a Mercedes-Benz air filter (part of the crane) and the ex-1/55 Atego recovery bed (minus its "toyish" winch). Are still to be modified the truck chassis (lowering and extension) with the flatbed modification (smaller winch, etc) to give the model a more realistic look. - For the Del Prado Cadillac mods, see previous post. Recently found on e... , an unknown producer of a motor hone on a 1/50 Solido base: BluCamp Ocean ??? motor home on a Renault Master 2.2dCI 4x2/2 chassis (modified(*) ????/Solido model), Note (*) the device under the chassis used to screw the model on its plinth was saw-off. The spare wheel (cast under the chassis) is still to be painted. As far as I know (see page 144 of this topic), only German model manufacturers Gama and Siku ever produced that type of vehicle in that scale. Regards. Guy
