I made this roof section from the trusses sold here on DHS, although its not done yet i wanted to post the pics, i was trying to simulate the Lampson Lift at Miller Park, although its not the right crane and the roof section is not to scale nor exactly the same, i thought it would be a cool project

I then used the roof section in a lift with the AC 500-2

Sweeeeet! The luffer looks good on the AC500. Long ain't she?

I responded in your other post too and I'll say it here again. I highly suggest buying YCC's lift cylinders. These plastic ones feel tough, but they WILL slip over time, especially at the angle you have them at in your last picture, especially if you put the luffing jib on. Mine fell over with the stock cylinders, thankfully no problems. I look at mine as insurance. Think Teeth

Thanks for sharing! I especially like your pink handbag in pic #4.WinkAni Confused Teeth

Yeah, you have to take the machine off the carrier and 'pop' the side panels off. It was a bit scary prying those pieces off, but it came out fine.
Here's how I found out how to do it. Some one pointed it out on the forum some time ago. I hope you can read Japanese!Whistle Whistle Click Me!!

That's not a Japanese website, it is a Taiwanese website from a man call Chou C M instead.

Nice pics, you going to do anythng else to the roof truss? You might lookinto plastructs or evergreen for other things to help you finish it off.

DeWoc19,
Get the brass cylinders. I replaced 2 sets on AC500's, and it's really a piece of cake to do, once you convince yourself to go through with it. Then I would recommend displaying the crane with only 1 boom section telescoped out (not all 4), so that you can have the SSL in use, and then you can have room for the luffing jib. Also, real AC500's don't use more than 7 sets (1L, 1R) of counterweights.

Dave,
I have 10 C/T weights each side on my 500. This is the total of the ones that came with the crane plus the extras packaged with the jib. Did Conrad not build the crane to specs?
Mic

Brings to mind: Can you run the full luffing jib with all the main boom extended on a real machine?

Mic,
Yes (built to spec plus 2 sets of spares) and yes. Although, I was wrong about the "7 sets" - it's actually 8. Here's a link to the sale brochure: AC 500-2
(See pages 5 and 25.)

Jason - i have the rest of the trusses to add to the center of the outer framing, i just didnt have time to get to it the other night, i have since finished that up

Dave - i would like to do the new cylinders but i dont read Taiwanese or Japenese or whatever it is, so unless i get some english instruction on how to do it it wont be happening anytime soon... ill be switching up the lenght of the boom from time to time and once i have a better spot for this model ill hopefully be adding the luffing jib to it, probably shortened up a bit though since i dont have 10 ft ceilings

DeWoc19,
Very nice setup... Personally, I dont we always have to worry about things always being the same or exactly to scale, thats the fun thing about this hobby, we can be unique (sp?) and different but at the same time model a real life situation....nices cranes!!

Zach-My shop is at your disposal-taking apart a brand new $400 model with out ever having done it is FUN!!! Doing the cylinders is easy, bet it would take more time for the paint to dry then to do the surgery! And you know, as long as its apart, we could always add the other YCC upgrades, and maybe repaint the whole unit red and black........ Uh sorry, there I go again!

That truss set up looks good by the way!
