It takes a lot of nerve to move something that big with those kind of road conditions. Thanks for posting Tim.

Gentlemen,

There is something wrong in these photographs, should both tractors be going in the same direction ?

Once again impressive photographs and impressive work from the boys of Mammoet.

Randy, it could be a reversing operation in which case it is quite common to have the rear truck facing the "wrong way" with that kind of set up.

Ray...

The first picture is interesting. It must have been fun negotiating the stop light and the multiple crowns in the crossroad.

AWESOME images..... While I was on the Big Dig, Mammoet came and moved a HUGE gantry crane side ways about 50 feet. I have one of their stickers on my hard hat!!!

For the record, each set of four wheels on the extended deck of 16 wheels (two platforms on each side) on the front trailer is a separate self powered unit. Each section moves under its own power and each set of wheels can be turned independently of the others. Once connected together they work with the entire set. The cab on the forward deck is the operator of that 'base'.
The front tractor assists in pulling the entire unit but is not the sole source of power. And just remember its not the size of the engine that matters here, its your gearing. All about TORQUE!!!!

ssdphoto, just wait around for TimT to post some of his collection here. I think that you will be even more amazed.
By the way, you have some nice photos of the Big Dig. Please post more. We wont mind at all, since most of us don't get the
opportunity to see all of this equipment on our own. Thanks for what you have posted so far.

TimT, how about re-posting some of your photos of the oil platform moves on here. Some of the newer members would like to see
them too.

Regards, Colin

Sorry, but you're incorrect about that. If those were SPMTs, that would be right, but those are both trailers only. The axles all turn and raise and lower to help balance the load, that's what the control cabs on each trailer are for. The two tractors supply all of the power to move this particular load.
