The four crawler configuration is rather interesting...

Is this Manitowoc's successor to the 21000? Perhaps a small swing at the twin-boom CC8800? What are it's stats (1:1 of course)? It looks like the designers took bits and pieces of other designs to come up with this one. The cab reminds me a little of the cab on the CC8800. The upperworks look a little like a ringer type set-up mounted on a big square carbody which has been given mobility by the four crawlers. As for counterweight, it looks like the large articulating arm is designed to allow you to adjust the distance at which the balast is hung behind the machine. Sort of like a realtime adjustable Maxer. Very interesting. I'm not sure whether I like it yet but I will definately say they are out of the box on this one.

One day soon somebody is going to strap a boom (or two) to the top of the crawler assembly that carries the space shuttle out the launch pad. Damn what a crane that will make. You could hoist and carry the state of Rhode Island at the 200 foot radius. Wink

So I guess this is the 2500 ton "X-pander on steroids" that Man has been developing?

So does this mean this model will be built? Or is it simply an idea? I want two and a wide load permit to get them homeTeeth

I believe Bucyrus had the contract for the two NASA crawlers. They are essentially the lower half of the big open pit shovels that Bucyrus and Marion were building in the 50's and 60's

Close, Marion had the contract and built the two transporters. It's close because Marion is now owned by Bucyrus, but at the time they were rivals.
