Hello folks, last week I was given the honour of recieving possibly the final new crane to be delivered in James Jack colours. It is a Grove GMK 5130, serial No. 2361. 60m main boom 18m fully hydraulic fly jib. Interesting bit to note that when tele,d out to 60m the boom bends backwards to compensate for deflection, its a funny sensation looking up at it! I have a couple of foto,s but would require somone to post them for me.
Thanks in advance, Ray.

Ray,
is this is the Grove 5130-2 as in the same as the model that TWH are bringing out? If so, I would be very interested in several good photos of the crane Smile

I am sure you can figure out why I am asking the question Cool

it doesnt bend backwards

the wear pads are set so the boom has a bit of belly in it when scoped out ,the Krupp's were the same way (banana booms) . check your procedure for adjusting wear pads in the manual. if the boom is hanging or is straight the pads need to be adjusted .
And it diffinatly doesnt compensate for deflection on long boom ,unless this deflection compensation format has been added to the LMI, it was only rumored that Demag was flirting with it a while back .

sorry you will still have to use a little cognitive process to get a load that doesnt drift away on you .

all in all a nice crane in the pics..

Liebherr1160, It was the Grove engineers words not mine, and this guy has been with Grove for 15 years!! We have had other Groves in the past and the backwards bend has not been this obvious. As for the wear plates being adjusted for this effect, how come they dont bend backwards when set at 50%?????
Again I will reitterate, the boom bends backwards when set at 100% due to the bottom of each section being machined in a way to compensate for deflection. Pictures to follow!!

the Krupps didnt look that way either..at all 50%..

seen some of the newer Demags, and Liebherr's that have this visual effect . but they had alot more sections than the old Krupps. the old Krupps had more iron in them ,,you need to get out past the camber to realise it on any of the hydro's
the newer 210,250,250L,165,90 ,Groves also had the backwards lean,,, as much as Grove would like to say it dosent help much ,if at all with boom deflection on long boom ,,,
11 feet of it in some cases

its a squirt stick ,unless you have super lift get ready to boom up alot, and then you you still need to take a little boom with super lift .
And as for the Grove engineer ,sales person or what ever ..hes no different than the guy ,delivering a Ford .GM or Dodge ,, any little inovation or difference that catches your eye becomes a big deal ,, it is their job to promote ,and instill confidence in a product,,

just becareful ,it all works great when its new

shame to see them go...

but for Ainscough yellow and blue, not for mammoet

and i personally have nothing against red and black itself, i just find it sad to see great liveries disappear. i love Koekkoek white and blue and KTC red and white, Convoi turquoise and yellow ...

gone

still was/is one of the best looking UK liveries ever.
somehow the scottish guys in Aberdeen know how to paint a crane to look good (Ashley-Seaforth-James Jack)
