I think this is an old original 495. Notice that it has the old style (and not so good) Bucyrus undercarriage and the old style cab.

This is an older shovel. It has NOT incorporated any of the marion influenced design. You are right about the undercarriage as it is a holdover from the 295 190 195 shovels as is the cab and the drive system. Looks to me like it has has some major rebuilding and is being put back into service. By the way the photos are really nice. Thanks for that!

These are not older units! Three of these HD (Heavy Duty) shovels have been erected at Boddington Gold Mine in the last year or so. See the press release: Bucyrus 495HDsPatgxo, The crane truck is a Franna (now part of Terex) AT-20. These units are very popular in Oceania. Franna AT-20Shaunrh 2311, Thanks for posting the photos! Please use this before clicking "post"??? You may be surprised with what you see!

Lovely!
Now who dreamt up those new tracks? They would be nightmare to make!!!! The red tracks are the earlier design. Also note the new RH120 in the background!
The HD version has a lower centre of gravity, and with the swing circle as low as possible to minimise torsional wear. In hard digging you want to resolve all the crowd forces as low to the ground as possible. As shovelman said, these do not have the marion based undercarriage design and note the HF and HR machine house is very similar (it is a development) to this one.
The HR and HF are known to have swing circle wear issues.
I understand that they have the same technology as the HR and HF inside and the fast fill bucket.

From what I understand, the 495HD is a smaller shovel than the HR or HF machines with more of the older technology still in place on them. They have kept them around to offer to operations who may need a large shovel, but not as big as an HR or HF. Also, where a lower tech or not quite cutting edge machine is still ok.

Brian Yeah, you can tell it's a smaller shovel just by looking at it.
