Beautiful work... My first thought was, "Is that legit? Who uses such a monster?" But of course, the big barge derricks easily handle those sort of loads. Any specs on the real thing - weight, size?

Any specs on the real thing - weight, size? yeah i was kind of thinking the same thing, i really would like to see this in comparison to a hook block or the rigging he is using. they just seem so large for a model crane

I have the 500 ton ones and they will be on the PTC shortly, however these 1200 tonners will be perfect for it as well. Great work!!

Here's a photo of a single shackle hanging from a crane. Don't remember where I got the picture, so I can't give proper credit. Rough specs on the 1000 -1500 ton shackle range: Height 53-58 inches Width 35-39 inches Weight 3200 - 5300 lbs

Nice work. I wonder how much the bolt weighs for a shackle that size.

You all gotta admit that these things are huge in the real world!
I got an estimate on the bolt weight....the bolt is approx. 10 inches in diameter by 36 inches long...around 1100 pounds for the bolt. The nut is spec'd at almost 3 inches thick!
Jason - I haven't priced out the 1250's yet, but the 500 tonners are $27.50 a pair plus shipping.

"See Dorothy? We're not in Kansas anymore..." haha I missed that one. But seriously guys, lets remember something, Michael took the time to do the research before maching these. He didn't just mill them and say oohh look those are huge and cool. He is a true craftsman and one who does his homework none the less! Again they look great and I for one can't wait to see what he does next. Mike MikesModels2011 on FacebookMikesModels2011 on YouTubeMikes Model Reviews ThreadMack Granite Project Thread

Ok guys...I have the 1250 ton shackles priced.
The cost is $40.00 per pair plus shipping.
Next item in the works is two modular spreader bars. One for the 500 ton shackles I make and one for the YCC 150-200 ton shackles.
