Thanks for these pics. That M-100SX is awesome, what a beast. I am so much more fascinated by these big boys than the current beefed up on-highway trucks.

Thanks for posting, these have been on my "must build in 1/24 scale" list for sometime.

Gary,

These are the three NY Metro M-series that Mashburn had, though the top 2 are both M75SX tractors. M45s have the larger, dual windshield, two man cabs. Breakdown as follows:

Mashburn # 1: "Double Ugly" Mack M75SX. Original owner: Corbett Rigging, Somerset, NJ. Nicknamed "Geronimo" by Corbett. Truck was recently owned by Bechtel Construction and was used at a job in upstate NY south of Albany a few years ago. Bechtel unit # 93.

Mashburn # 2: "Tuff-E-Nuff" Mack M100SX. Original Owner: Hoffman International, Belleville, NJ. Currently owned by Pile Foundation Construction, Hicksville, NY

Mashburn # 4: "Double Tuff" Mack M75SX. Original owner: Gerosa Haulage & Warehouse, Bronx, NY. Current location unknown.

If you look closely at the background of picture 3, you will see 3 Mack M-series tractors under roof at Mashburn's yard. They had a sales flier from when these trucks were available following Masburn selling out to Lonestar, and truck # 3 was pictured in that flier, if my memory serves me correctly. No idea where that one came from. I think the guy from Mashburn did not send a picture of it because he thought my brother was only interested in the three trucks from NY/NJ.

Also note, that it appears 1 & 2 were just unloaded from trailers, as both still have red flags attached to their front and rear wheels.

Thanks for posting these, Gary! Haven't seen them in quite some time.

Regards,

John

I found a link that shows Double Ugly when the truck was down in Greene County NY with Bechtel's logo on the door: http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/mark_redman/nov2003/file0068.jpg

Matt,

I was on my way to a truck show in Ballston Spa, NY, a couple of years ago when I came across this truck sitting about 100 yards off the main road inside what I think was power plant. There were quite a few Marino cranes on the site as well. As usual, I was taking the "scenic route", otherwise known as the "Ho Chi Minh Trail", and I have no idea where the hell I was. All I know is I was south of Albany, east of I-87, west of the Hudson, and headed north. There was not a chance of getting a picture of it as security seemed to be a bit high, and her back was facing the road. I knew what it was, though, and I was sure shocked to see it there. A while later when I first saw this picture, it filled in the rest of the puzzle as to how and why it was there.

QUESTION FOR JOHN-45LMSWM -- JONH DO YOU KNOW WHAT YEAR HOFFMANS M-100SX IS. WE KNOW GEROSAs IS A 1972 M-75SX. I AM JUST WONDERING WHO HAD THE BIG TRACTOR FIRST. I THINK GEROSA NEEDED THE BIG TRACTOR FOR THE BUILDING OF THE INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. THANKS GARY

Gary,

I do not know exactly when Hoffman bought their M100. As far as I know, Mack only built 3 of them, and I think all were built as dump trucks. Hoffman's was a dump truck originally, possibly a Mack demonstrator, and was purchased by Hoffman when it was nearly new. Hoffman had offered the body for sale along with the tractor in a magazine add at one point.

My brother Dave might know the exact year it was built, or when Hoffman bought it. I will have to ask him. I think there was a Bulldog Magazine article about the truck going to Hoffman. I know Standard's M45 tractor had a write-up in Bulldog as well, but that one was sold new as a tractor, not a dump truck.
