The model started out its life as a Komatsu-Demag H255S. Here's a link:

The majority of the adjustments that were made were to the cab, boom, and stick.

Very Very nice model but!

The H185S has a different counter weight compaired to the H255/PC3000

Still A nice custom. Just as good as the OHS Version.

The counter weight on a Demag 185 can be of both verssions. The early models had the sloping rear while the latter models had the counter weight like the 255/3000 The metal tracks makes such a difference and propper Demag Yellow. 10/10.

Looks like renaultman beat me to the chase on this one. Renaultman's correct. The older H185 had the different sloping counterweight. I've seen this all the time- people constantly get the H185 confused with the H185S. The new S series was very different than the older H185 and did have the same counterweight as the H185 until 1992.

Sad thing is, that NZG model of the H185 is such a terrible replica of the actual machine its pathetic! The model is supposed to be a replica of the first Demag H185, which was released in the 60s. Thing is, of the very few early H185's that were built, none match the model by NZG.

I think we should give Sal some credit on this one and not just the new owner.
Good job sal.

I felt compelled to provide some accurate information to this post;

The Demag H185 was introduced in 1983.

Although the H185 NZG model was not the best, it is a reasonably accurate rendition of the early H185s.

By the way; Sal, you have a lot of talent for such a young guy!!

Please use this before clicking "post"??? You may be surprised with what you see!

That was my error, I meant to say early 80s; bumped the wrong button by accident Whatever Sorry about that, but that's correct, the 185 was introduced in the 80s.

The NZG model is really pittful. Of course, you can't blame NZG, this was their first big shovel model they ever made. I wish they made a more updated version though.

I'll tell you, one of the hardest parts about doing this project was to find the specs on the machine (luckly I did get them). Demag never had any dealerships in the US. Any mine company who wanted to buy a Demag excavator delt directly with Germany. The 185 and 285 were the best sellers worldwide by far.

Got to disagree sorry. The 255 only came about after Komatsu gained interest.

Check out this last on the line DEMAG H185S (Demag-Bagger.de) .... Different counter weight

Komatsu - DEMAG H255 .... Different side-frames as well.

So Basically the Counter weight and Side frame come from the 255. What about the air filter?

The very early 255's are very close to the 185S exept the boom - stick, frames and counter weight.

Anyhow.. Not in any way trying to disrespect the model maker ... Still an Awesome Custom job

Rossco,
I stand defeated on that one. But I'm not worried, its only the counterweight. As for the air filter, Komatsu movied it up onto the deck when they bought Demag out.

JustinE,

In the mid to late 80's there most definately was a Demag dealer in the western United States. The dealer was in the Reno, NV area and supplied the first Demag H485S shovel in the United States to a mine in the Elko, NV area.

Randy,
There were a few BIG companies that dealt in supplying Demag shovels and other mine equipment in the US and Canada. Companies like Wajax made it easier for mine companies to order their machines through a certified dealer, rather than deal directly with the company. 90% of the time, this was the case with Demag. I can name a lot of companies right here in PA that bought their Demag's (H95's , H285's, and H185's) directly from Germany.
As I said before, there were never any "Demag only" dealerships in the US. You may have miss understood my statment, and I'm definiatly not the best at explaining things. By this I mean a dealer that dealt only with Demag and supplied only Demag (like at Cat dealer). It wasn't like a Cat or Komatsu dealer, where you could drive down and see new H30's and H55's on the lot. This wasn't the case. There were dealers that dealt with, supplied parts, and could order you Demag excavators, but never any private Demag stores/dealerships.

Now, as for if Demag had any private Demag stores/dealerships in Europe, I honestly don't know.

This would also explain why its been so hard for me to find an origional Demag baseball cap to wear. They must have made them, and I'd love to get one Teeth

Hope this clears it up for you!

A superb bit of work there, Sal! I believe I had one of the original NZGs. I'm not sure of its accuracy, but it was an impressive chunk of iron back then. I would have preferred the excavator/backhoe version instead of a shovel...

*Must continue to resist the urge to purchase mining equipment. No room and WAAAAAY too expensive...* d'oh!

Nice work Sal.
As for Demag/Komatsu Mining dealers in the US, British dealer, KMG have recently supplied a couple of PC5000s to the coal mining belt. Had the offer to go and do a feature on them for Earthmovers, but would have to pay my own way Sad
