I'm sure most of you know through the Dhs newsletter recently sent out, but as usual, the model has been delayed again, until summer/early fall 2013. That is all =>:-<

biggest model failure ever!!! they should just scrap the whole thing cause its never going to officially come out
and if Ben comes in here and says "but its gonna be a great model, worth the wait" i just might have to drive up to Manitowoc and punch him in the face cause nobody in their right mind could honestly believe that at this point

Agree DeWoc. After all the hype, it really has to be the biggest flop to date.

Also, if Liebherr steal Manitowoc's thunder while everybody is waiting and release a model of the LR13000 without any problems that would be an extremely big blow.
But as you say, the omens are not good.....

At this rate everyone and their momma have plenty of time to save up for it.

Is the 31000 still sitting in Manitowoc's yard in Wisconsin or has it been used to do any paying lifts?

Both are still in the yard, ones setup with full main boom while the other is completely taken apart, waiting to ship. Both have been sitting this way for months!

If they are both sold then the owners need to get them to get work because its not profitable paying for a piece of equipment while it just sits there looking pretty. Do both of them have their certification or is there a problem waiting to be solved? Couldn't BP have used these cranes in their Chicago refinery instead of shipping the Liebherr monster over from Germany? Who purchased the 2nd Crane since the original buyer backed out? All Crane was rumored to be a possibility.

All Crane was rumored to be a possibility. The BP job could have been for the 31000 but with all the delays they've had with the crane they were probably dropped in favor for Mammoet. Liebherr knows what they're doing, Manitowoc? I have to believe not so much anymore. Hell, even the AC1000/9 The largest flop of all is out doing field testing while the 31000 just collects dust and rusts.

Hello all. Many have asked about the Manitowoc 31000 project and future plans to actually deliver the model. We have been taking orders for this model for over 4 years now and obviously it has never arrived. Here are some facts from my understanding of the project. TWH planned to build this model for availability after Conexpo in 2011. It was actually introduced to the public in late 2008/early 2009. The plastic sample was finished and shown at Conexpo in 2011, but it never went to tooling. The original hangups were some changes from Manitowoc on the real machine mixed in with some errors at the factory producing the first tooling sample of the model. I believe the changes were finally resolved but then TWH was not able to fund the project (it is very expensive). So therefore, it remains as a potential model but with no delivery date in site. The project has been “shopped around” a bit to see if anyone else wanted to make it, but nothing has come of it yet. I believe that, eventually, a company will step forward and complete the project, otherwise, I would not leave the pre-order capability on our website. So DHS is still taking orders for the model and have plenty of interested customers, but no model to send them yet. This is the current status as of today. Hopefully this clears up some questions. Thanks, Chuck

I'd hardly call that good news. LTM 1500 made it to market before this silly thing ever did! Stick a fork in it.

i have been saying it all along, the 31000 is the biggest model failure of all time and that it was never going to come out.
