Model cars are supposed to be in a 1/43 scale.
During many years, Corgi Toys and Dinky Toys - top model producers in the 1950s/1960s - used to built models in a 1/48 scale (a scale favored in UK, where it is also known as 1/4' scale) or in a very neighboring scale.

A few examples, generally - and wrongly - associated with the 1/43 scale:





Buick Riviera Generation 1 4x2/2(*) (modified Corgi Toys model),





Note (*): according to my calculations, the 5.28 metres long car could be reproduced in a 1/51 scale (model measurement indicating 1/5077 precisely).

In "The Great Book of Corgi" page 53, M. R. van Cleemput indicated that the Studebaker vehicle was reproduced in 1/49 scale(*):







Note (*): my own ma propre analyse indique que la voiture de 10.4 mètres de long serait au 50ème (valeur trouvée: 1/4981).

Page 54 of the same book, the Plymouth station wagon is indicated as being produced in a 1/49 scale(*) also:







Note (*): my analysis shows that the Corgi car could be modeled in a 1/51 scale instead (1/5132).

The guys I use around are Preiser 1/50 figures and are generally 3.5 to 3.6cm in height (which equals to 1.75/1.80m in a 1/50 scale).
They seem too small to be 1/43 (which would then give a man height of 151/155cm).

Pontiac Bonneville 58 4x2/2 station wagon modified as a Criterion ambulance by Superior (modified Dinky Toys model, to be repainted),



Announced in a 1/48 scale by Dinky Toys UK (see following post), the model was effectively produced in that scale (1/4821 as per my own measurements).

I saw a Hotwheels Fiat 500 in a shop the other day. It could almost be 1:50 scale, but I'm not sure. If I see another for sale, I'm getting it! It can't be far off - it's a tiny car!

In the Saudi Arabian desert, an Al Jaber Transport heavy haulage combination:



Mack RD-800SX 6x4/2 tractor with additional sleeping box (modified Smith Auto Models kit) loaded with 2 removable concrete ballast blocks (homemade), towing a Nicolas R12 12-line modular trailer (modified Corgi elements) loaded with a 106.1 tonnes Caterpillar D11N tracked bulldozer with ripper (Conrad model),

Australian road train(*):







Kenworth Australia K200-2.8M 6x4/2 tractor (Drake Collectibles model) with 2 Freightmaster ST3 3-axle flatbed semi-trailers (modified Tekno models) and a Freightmaster RTD2 2-axle dolly (Tekno model). The road train carries a 40ft maritime container of unknown brand (Diecast Masters model), an unknown weight sheeted load (Corgi element) and a 19.5 tonnes Terex-Franna AT 20-3 4x4 articulated hydraulic crane (Conrad model),



Note (*): the "A Double Road Train" displayed here is "only" made of 2 trailers, limited to 36.5 metres and 79 tonnes, while "A Triple Road Train" comprising 3 conventional trailers can operate legally up to 53.5 metres and 115.5 tonnes in Australia.
