Citröen 2 CV "Bicéphale" (which could be translated by "Double-headed") designed by some Var region firemen, to avoid driving on long distance in reverse gear on narrow and mountainous forest tracks of that South of France region:    The vehicle, built from 2 front parts of a 2 CV to be driven facing the road either way, remained unique:  Regards. Craig, These 6x6 trucks were produced much earlier (late 50s) and used in the Algerian desert during the oil boom, when France was still in charge of that region:  But they didn't reach high numbers down there with Kenworth trucks getting the largest part of the activity. I hope this helps. Guy

Gents,
The vehicle was built in the seventies by Michelin engineers, using Citroën DS cab and front bonnet: don't forget that, at that time, Michelin company owned Citroën vehicles company! That vehicle was approx. 9 tonnes in weight and was 7.50 metres long for a 2.45 metres width. It was able to reach a 150km/hour speed and had two V8 Chevrolet engines, one to power the truck wheel inside, the second one linked to vehicle driven axles at rear.

Two of the 4 Berliet GLC 6 trucks involved in the Gas-Oil Operation, set by Berliet in 1953 through the North-Africa desert to promote their Lavalette-Bosch injection system:   Hachette have done a very good job, when offering 2 models - perfectly reproduced - with different bodies: the "motorhome" truck (registered 3455 CJ 75) and the workshop truck (with winch at front and registered 3457 CJ 75)   Regards. Guy: I think the Peugeot show be pulling the Renault!!! That car is big and I assume very heavy. That little wrecker is cute, but not too impressive as a tow truck! Keep em coming. Craig

Craig Craig, The Peugeot 203 was produced from 1958 to 1964 and was a little bit less than 1 tonne. The Renault Colorale (1950-1957) was the first post-WW2 "countryside" Renault vehicle and was heavier at 1.64 tonnes. It didn't sell very well and lots of 4x4 versions were turned into light wreckers at low cost by local Renault garage owners.
