get your facts right

1) VW acquired the rights to the name and brand Bugatti in 1998
2) the Veyron is produced in the Bugatti Factory in Dorlisheim in france, this also partly due out of tradition, since Ettore Bugatti, the original founder, was italian, but produced his cars in Molsheim, france. Thats also the reason why Bugatti feature the traditional french racing colour blue, as opposed to traditional red for Italy on the Alfas, Ferraris, silver for german Auto Union, Mercedes, Porsche and of course Britsh Racing Green like used by Bentley, Aston martin, Lotuis and numerous others legendary names. traditional US racing colours are the white with blue stripes or inversed (Ford GT40 anyone?)
2a) the Veyron was designed by a young guy, age 26, who is now head of design (not catering) of VW daughter Skoda. the dessign of the Veyron has had to be changed several times in detail though due to requirement for safe speed at up to 400 km/h
2b) the Veyron is currently the third fastest road-legal car in the world, but weight around 600 kilos more than number 1 and 2)
3) calling Porsche a glorified VW only proves you never sat in one. period. but: VW´s capital is mainly owned by Porsche and the descendants of the family, not the other way round. actually this is a neverending story in german media these days... Porsche management vs Volkswagen unions
4) Ferdinand Porsche designed the original Volkswagen, and yes, thats where the shape comes from. Voolkswagen meaning "Peoples car", not more not less. The car was developed under Nationalsocialist period as an affordable car for the germans of that time. promoted by Nazi orginazation KdF-Wagen (Kraft durch Freude) a factory was produced more or less in the middle of nowhere, a town around it was founded known today as Wolfsburg, which is still today the headquarters of VW. so the history of VW and Porsche are very tightly woven, but i can assure you, a ride in a 996 GT3 really convinces you that you sit in a full-fashioned supersports car. and even if the Porsche do not break records in top speed and price, to me, they are always in the top cars when it comes to overalll design. chassis, comportment, engine, brakes, acelaration, road handling. Porsche is the most successfull sports and race car constructor worldwide. and this stil has to be beaten. in short: Porsche kicks some ass and you can just shut up.
*soapbox*

You wouldn't happen to be a long, lost relative of Richard Hammond by any chance Wink
