May not be glamorous but you are putting together a really nice diary in the life of a crane operator.

Today I've been right in the city, tight little back roads and weight limits everywhere but got the crane where it needed to be to put some Air conditioning units right up high....66m main boom 46.8t of ballast and the 19m fly stitched to the end.

Cracking good shots Gaz!!

When you get a chance you need to get some of you with your R/C controler!!

I also see you were in a bigger "toy" there than usual??

Another job in the city today, changing the motor on a lift, finished in 20 minutes, took longer to rig the crane....nice easy Sunday shift and now of to enjoy the sunny weather.

In the Yard tomorrow, hopefully something of good size will be in the play with. I've heard we've got a brand new LTM1200 coming to our yard, I've got my name down on it so fingers crossed it'll be handed to me.

It's just a rumor but I hope it's true, I might not get it because of my expertease with the 150, seem to be the only one in our yard who can actually use it properly without damaging it! But that's another story, I quite fancy a 200, very busy crane.

The wagons a 8 leg Scania with a Fassi lorry loader, used today just for bringing some narrow matts mine on board where to wide to fit in the space we had for the road closure.

I wonder if Ainscough will ever replace those Scania lorry loaders with MANs?

In the yard today, replacing the pressure sensors on the Derrick ram as it's weighing loads to heavy, hook block only weights 750kg and it's reading it's at 3.5t!

There was a 250 loading matts 1st thing but it's gone now.

Another summers day Smile.

Is this something you do or a fitter? I'm assuming the latter which then leads me to ask what you do whilst this work is being done? I guess general maintenance and stuff like that?

Thanks,

Paul

Just because I could, and I was bored I sent all the boom out and went to the top in a nan basket, good view of the city 200ft up Teeth. Really th reason was I wanted to see if the Bluetooth controller would work with me in the basket all the way up at the top.....it did, so I was driving the crane from the top....happy days.

Makes me dizzy just seeing the picture! Not sure I'd want to be up there. Great view though.

great pictures! Must be quite an experience to be the load and the operator at the same time.

Just a quick one Gaz, when I lift the boom off the rest while booming up the SLI reads 9 ton. I asked the question and Terex fitter told me its the weight of the fly jib, super lift and hook block combined. One of the drawbacks taking the reading off the oil pressure in the boom ram I suppose!!

It's was reading the hook block at 5t close radius mate, and 2t at long radius, way to much. Liebherr's (yes those amazing can't do nothing wrong cranes) do suffer from a distorted load reading at extreme close radius but mine was excessive and when it is doubling the weight at 40m+ it was time to change the pressure sensors. Done the trick though, have correct readings now.

Today I'm lifting a cable drum in Barking East London, nice day and a early finish Smile

Been nice weather for a while now, not any more....heavy rain is slowing things down, might not finish it today, towers up just waiting to drop the slew ring on.

Today I've taken a long trip up to Birmingham, working on a new school. 3ton concrete slabs for a company called bisons. Lifting them up and over and down again through the steel work, quite a delicate job but I'm up for the challenge Smile.
