I dunno Gav, I like the Macks better. With the Volvo running gear would be a much smoother ride.

Great pics

I know they remove the cab to reduce transport height but why don't they just put it on a pallet in front or behind the machine?
Now somebody has to make the whole trip just to bring the cab while they transport the rest of the machine in one piece.

I understand what your saying. I think it has to do with the permits.

V8dieselpower,

You are correct that they normally take the cab / ROPS and strip a lot of the 'top deck'
[exhaust stacks /handrails etc.] to reduce the overall height on the load being transported.

In most Australian States / Territories the legislation is written that 'Only one indivisible item' can be carried on the trailer that the oversize load is being carried on, hence why the addition pieces [cab / ROPS / handrails etc.] are transported to the destination on other trucks.

In some cases and when required, additional pieces of the machine are removed to reduce the overall weight to meet Permit requirements.

Hope this helps some !!!
