Anyone know why Norscot made a new version of the 793D? And why not make another truck? For example a 785 or 797?

I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT WHY NOT MAKE A CAT 785 OR CAT 797 or EVEN A CAT 797B OR ALL 3

Miningexcavators, The 797B is the updated version of the older 797. The 797 is no longer built, it is now the 797B. The same goes with the 785, it is now the 785C. Amazingly, the old 793C is still in production!!

Ahh the casting is already done for a 793 so new style body and poweredge dress and you have enough changes to use up the dies and make a bit more from us diehards, i will buy it.
On the smaller trucks Cat are about to update them to D models so no point tooling up for a truck that is about to be phased out. Some very big developments within Cat trucks at the moment and with a new 795 size ED truck coming out in the next couple of years a diecast of that may be in the pipeline.
Or how about a CCM 1/48 diecast of the 1960,s 779 electric drive truck, any takers?

A CCM CAT 779 IN 1/48 WOULD BE A NICE MODEL AND MAYBE A NORSCOT CAT 785C MINING TRUCK IN IN 1/50 SCALE WOULD BE NICE AND MAYBE A CAT 793XQ in 1/50 diecast

I thought they were going to discontinue the '06 virsion to make way for the new one, that was in one of prtstrdj's eBay listings.
P.S. Has anyone bought one yet?

I will buy this model, but I just find it strange.
Also another thing that is strange is that Norscot still make the 5110B excavator when the 1:1 5000-series no longer exists...

Shift 911 i think you would be pleasently surprised should this model be made.CCM 148 988 diecast has just been released and at $129 is real value and the other models coming out in this line (which a 779 would be part of) would be similarly priced.
Please CCM a 779 electric drive truck, 666 scraper and a 16 motor grader.

I know there is a huge difference between price ranges in brass and diecast crafted models, but whether or not their new line will be made strictly diecast, I don't know. But notice how the new 1/48 CCM 637G will be $1,400? 637GPossibly only because its limited to 300 pieces, idk.

Gentlemen, I'm having a very difficult time understanding all the negativity in this post directed at Norscot. When Norscot first introduced the Caterpillar 793D truck, the number one complaint was the "waffle" body. Many participants of this forum requested a "normal" body. Well.......Norscot answered these requests and all I see here are complaints. Randy M. Smolenack RMSmodels@aol.comrandy.m.smolenack@us.army.mil

Yeah, Randy... How dare Norscot release a different-bed version of this truck and charge us more for it!? It's almost as if they are in the business to make money! How dare they not pander to us collectors! I'm glad they are releasing the model with the rock bed. It gives me an excuse to get another 793 . The higher costs are probably because of rising materials costs. I just hope Cat comes out with a 797C truck soon; Norscot would probably then make the model of it. - Alex
