Hey Guys, I was just looking at CAT's website to look up some info for my D6K OROPS project.....and found out there isn't a D5P, but rather a D5K....does anyone know anything about this....I remember the old post with the D5P pic.It just does not make any sense to me. I also saw that there is a D3K,D4K, and then the D5K...just seems weird to me. But what do I know. Link to the site, you will have to go into the Dozer page, http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=37840&x=7And I saved the pic of the D5P, SO for anyone like TimT or tigerotor, any idea why this happened? I would guess we will see the K-series dozers will soon replace the G-series models. Mike MikesModels2011 on FacebookMikesModels2011 on YouTubeMikes Model Reviews ThreadMack Granite Project Thread

Or maybe it's not listed on the Cat web page.

Yea, I dunno who even posted it .... the search keeps giving me error messages and its no longer on the Bid Spec website.Thats where I saw it after I saw it on the forum. Just as a sidenote I see no more of the G-series dozers are on the Bid Spec site..... I'm guessing it won't be long before we see all the rest of the K-series.We'll just have to sit back and see what happens. I don't exactly remember for sure, but I think the photos of the D5P were taken in Europe. The D5P machine actually became what is now the D6K and the D5P nomenclature was only seen on the field follow units. I could be wrong, but that is how I remember the story...I think. - Chris

A thing I would like to know is when CAT runs out of letters (like when the D5Z hit the market) what will they call the next D5 then? :S

What about the D11T?? The bigger machines are at higher letters. I was thinking the same thing a couple weeks ago. Maybe it will be how wether forecasters do storms, maybe once they run out of letters they will go into Greek symbols, or maybe just start over at like the begining of the alphabet and for letter they have already used once make it the II (series 2) or if they already made a series II make a III (series 3) Jim

more than likely start over again, with prefix changes in the id numbers, D8 upward is classed as heavy production so possibly when they introduce new models, example engine upgrades, transmission revamps within a set model range they arrived at the T series, same as the K series a set model range has been improved and that has been named the k series, so maybe preproduction models before this have been evaluation machines thus skipping letters in between ( i and J )....

once they run out of letters it will probly restart in a new series,,,,d8z becomes d8 series 2 or 3 . the d3c went through 3 series before it became the d3g
