Anyone own or have an opinion on this piece. It looks great in the online photos, but I'm concerned that the resin may take away from the overall look and feel of the model. Would appreciate any insight into the quality of the piece.
Thanks
Turner

cturner111, There is no resin on this model: The railings are plastic, but they are to scale. The only component in my opinion that looks a bit out of place is the pull down stairway. Other than that, I think this is a fantastic model for the price. Randy M. Smolenack RMSmodels@aol.comrandy.m.smolenack@us.army.mil

Thanks Randy...those railing do look rather thick...understand they are to scale. Would like to see this in brass or maybe 1/50 scale in the future. Lots of potential here.... maybe OHS!
Thanks for the quick repsonse. BTW..I'm a navy guy in D.C. I noticed your Army email address.

1:50 yes, but please somebody serious! not OHS! lets have companies like TWH or WSI have ago at this, at least its gonna be high-class diecast and saves collectors a few nerves, when you read the horror stories OHS customers post

Christian,
I agree...TWH and WSI pieces are very, very nice. If TWH could make this in 1/50...I figure it would give the 495 "syncrude" a run for its money! I'd definitely buy it if it where produced.
I heard the Japanese company that made the EX8000 is new to the model business. Maybe we'll see more expensive & better detailed pieces in the future from them. This mining shovel needs to be "kicked up a notch".

The Hitachi model looks okay for the most part. They got the basic overall shape. However, those rails look like sewer pipes compared to the real thing. For the price and smaller scale, that's probably the best they could do. I would love to get a 1/50 version with comparable detail to the RH340 and 495 HF/HR models.

As I've said before guys, we should wait and see what other Hitachi models EMD will release now that Brandon has a contract with them. Brandon says we'll have to wait and see how well the EH5000 does, and then he'll consider making more Hitachi stuff, that is if Hitachi wants to continue working with him. Only time will tell! But I do agree, I'd love to see a 1:50th EX8000!!

Any pics of the 1:50 prototype EH5000? DHS doesn't have any on its site.

Is the EMD EH5000 going to be brass?? Be nice to pre-order.
I have the 1/87 Terex Titan Westar in brass and its a pretty good piece. Another brass piece would be a good follow-up.

The prototype EH5000 is completed and will be unveiled at ConExpo. The model is EMD's first diecast model. The detail is supposed to be exquisite; one of the highest on any other truck model on the market. EMD also recived permission from Detroit Diesel to create a fantastic replica the EH5000's engine.

JustinE (and to everyone who has read this post), The EMD Hitachi EH5000 prototype will not be displayed at Conexpo next week! We all have to wait a little longer. Please use this before clicking "post"??? You may be surprised with what you see!

Well there must have been some kind of problem with the prototype, because it was supposed to be unveiled at ConExpo. I'll have to ask Brandon what happened. Thanks for the heads up on this Shovelman!
