There will be no R998, but the excavator you are asking for is this machine, the right name of the mentioned excavator is R9800!! And it`s similar size as Hitachi EX8000 Regards Rainer W. Markgraf

Mark, sorry I only linked the french forum topic about the R9800 prototype. At the french forum: Passion Liebherr the pictures of the prototype of the R9800 backhoe had been published in a public, not protected section of that forum and these pictures had been marked with a copyright of the owner, a member of that forum. Linking to an already published public forum topic is not illegal. So I surely won`t publish forreign pictures marked with a copyright any where else, without the permission of the legal owner. And now the french forum is down since early evening of thursday the 13th of march. Maybe too many visitors of the french forum requested this topic about the Liebherr prototype or may be they had to close down after an intervention of Liebherr, I don`t know. But that is an other reason for me not to post these pictures myself, if I would have got them. Regards Rainer

It looks like a 996 rotation deck in the shrink wrap by the side of it, which would give some interesting comparisons with regard to size.
It looks like it has "quiet" grills already built in to the sides, which wouldn't surprise me as the Australian market is very important to Liebherr in the 996 class machine as Thiess and Mt Arthur have "quiet" sound suppressed machines.
I wonder where this will be heading???

Looks like that is the 2nd (belive 3 have been ordered?) to leave the factory.. It takes a while to move a machine to a job location..

Man, what a beast! Just wait a few years until it goes onto the market and then we'll see some pics of that monster in action! 800ton class; that means that the RH400 is still the largest
