Does anyone know what parts of this model are made of metal and what are made of plastic? I am asking since the SK350 from last year was mostly a disappointment in my opinion. The metal tracks look good from what I've seen though. Too bad there is no undercarriage detail.

Please use this before clicking "post"??? You may be surprised with what you see!

I just went and looked at my SK350 and you are right the entire body is plastic, I never noticed that. Now looking at the pictures of the SK850 I think the body is also plastic. Look at the boom mounting plate in the first picture, that's metal but look at the body next to it, does not match. So I would assume that the body and underside of the boom on this model are plasticSad

Does kobelco even market this in the US? The last excavator stats sheet in equipment today listed the SK480LC ME as the largest kobelco excavator. Maybe this is new though! I have one of the 1/43 scale excavators, but now there is beginning to be a lot more stuff in that scale. it used to be all that was made was 200 size machines by shinsei. But now a lot of stuff is coming out. Interesting. I also bet the body is largely plastic, as I don't see as much gloss to it as the boom mounting plate has. Anyone know a price yet?

Yep, it is available in the United States. Trinity Materials and Bianchi Industrial Services each have atleast one. I wish they would do a yellow version too, but the blue will be a great addition to the collection! Very Asian looking in the blue color scheme.

The SK850 the day after the close of ConExpo 2008.

Now that is an awesome machine and a great looking model! Even if it is plastic. If anyone knows where I can buy one (not from e-bay) or can point me in the right direction, please PM me, it would be much appreciated. I'm going to contact Kobelco - Australia tomorrow to see if they have any in stock.

Rowan.

I looked at that machine at Con-expo and was talking to one of the reps there Kobelco doesn't make that machine it is another company out of asia that builds it then Kobelco just paints them up in their color
