Earlier in the week I was informed of a big lift happening in Hartford, CT with Testa's Grove GMK 7550 Mobile Crane. It was slated to be a Friday night pick. I dropped by the site on Thursday night, after being on a job in Brooklyn for 2 days, to take some video of the crane assembly process. It was then that I was told that the pick had been moved up to Friday MORNING at 7AM.

So at 7AM Friday morning I arrive to find the CAT 345 having its shear put on and all the preparations being made to make the pick.

Smedley Crane and Rigging out of Bradford, CT was the lead company with Testa's 7550 doing the heavy work as a rental. The concept was rather interesting. The Dual I Beam Truss supported section was used as a utility channel spanning over an Amtrak rail line and UNDER a section of I-84. Smedley used its propane powered 4 piston hydraulic ram support system to pre-lower the section so that the slings could be attached. The section was lowered about 10 feet to give enough room to attach the nylon slings. The clearances were so tight that the block on the 7550 was within less than a foot of the concrete barrier of I-84.

The total weight of the payload was 142 tons with with 7550 outfitted with 160 tons of counterweight and the MegaWing attachment.

I found your calender of the Testa equipment. They look excellent. My only problem is I already have several calenders for 2009...
