The Saipem 7000 at the quay at Randaberg, outside Stavanger. This was back in 2006, but I did find it interesting to put some pictures on the web now. I was just operating a Demag AC 200-1 on the quay, to strip a barge for some equipment. This floating-crane must be the upper limit of what that may be made a model of. Teeth

Some data from Saipem's web-site:
2 twin S 7000 model fully revolving bow mounted Amhoist cranes.
Main blocks tandem lift: 14,000 t
Main block single lift: 7,000 t revolving at 40 m rad./41 m tieback 6,000 t revolving at 45 m rad./50 m tieback
Aux.1 block: 2,500 t revolving at 74 m rad.
Aux. 2 block: 900 t revolving at 115 m rad.
Lowering capability to 450 m below sea level
Whip hook: 120 t revolving at 150 m rad.

I have been trying for 4 years to find someone to build a 1:50 model of this huge beast. So far no one wants to undertake it.
FYI, in 1:50 the model "ship" will be will measure 68" wide X 13 feet long X 54" high. The boom fully raised will be 10.5 feet high or over 15 feet from the bottom of the ship.
Even in 1:87 this model will still be huge.
If anyone is interested in undertaking the challange in either 1:50 or 1:87 please let me know.

You know, I would gladly build it, but for one thing-Mammoet does not have one!

That is a truly massive set of cranes-and I assume that water, pump in as needed is the counter weight.

May TWH could make it!

A company like TWh would have to make at least 50 models to be interested. I doubt that 50 people are as crazy as I am and would spend $5,000.00 or more for this model. I have contacted a ship modeller and was quoted an astronomical cost.
Oh well, I can dream.

Trust me, I've been "under"(30 ft from it) this vessel in my little boat and the sheer size is mind boggling. The crane cabs seem like little dots beside the overall crane structure.

And as for a 1/50 model.....phew you'd need a new barn!!.

@ Steve, I'm not sure if this company in Scotland would be an option for you?. I asked them about making me a model of the Bourbon Orca anchor handler and they said they could do it but that I "wouldn't see much change out of £4500($5000?)". Silenced

Thanks for the pics and specs.amazing the designing and building.
I'm eating a chocolate chip cookie right now. Bob M your approaching it from the wrong end-sell the real cranes to Mammoet then you'll have to have a model. Teeth Bob
