Hey all,

Anyone planning on picking one of these up?? I am having crane withdrawal, and was told this would cure it(temporarily). Anyway, I can see the derrick mast assy from the LTM1800 working fine, but the jib off the LTM1800 is alot different then the real life crane. Are there multiple versions?? The main difference I have seen on real life luffing jibs is the jib struts are lattice, almost like a 1750, and on the LTM1800 they are solid, like the LR1280??????

Phote from the Liebherr website.

Any thoughts???

Thanks
Mark

There are two Luffing jibs for the LG-1550.. The one from the LTM-1800 is used as a "light duty luffing jib".

Picture curtisy of Jason (Hummer13)

The heavy duty one looks like this

So in real life there are two versions as for the model? The pictures I've seen from other model websites show the 1550 with the heavy version of the luffer. I'm sure it was only a prototype so i wouldn't get the hopes up about having two different luffers for the crane. Altho it would be sweet!

hope that answers your question...

Thank man,

That's kind of what I thought, I was looking at some pics from the German toy show last year and the prototype showed a heavier version. I am not going to hold my breath.

No problem..

I like the heavy luffer better myself..

There's also a SLK boom shown on one 1550..

I would hope YCC would release the different boom configurations. Guess we'll have to wait till Feb 5th - 10th to find out.. Not that far away!

and to add to it, you can even put the top of the LTM1800 jib on top of the LG1550 heavy jib. instead of bolting on the LG1550 jib head you put in another reduction piece and then the smaller LTM1800 latttice works with their jib head

this is the so called Spacelifter needle configuration that gave Riga Mainz´s machine its name. not many companies do/did own this. you either have to buy it for your LG1550 (like Riga Mainz for their LGD1800) or you gotta have a LTM1800 with jib in your fleet that you can borrow the pieces from (like for example Thömen and Schmidbauer do)

Liebherr calls it boom system type N, if you wanna look it up in the data sheet of the LG. the heavy jib system is boom system type W (both combined give crane configuration SDWN)

LG with normal heavy jib has maximum 156 meters height, with additional needle it goes to 182 meters. The LG then needs the derrick with full counterweight on to be able to pull this system up into vertical position. when up he needs to bolt the derrick counterweight off to work

there are pics of Riga Mainz doing a job on an antenna with 177 meters height using every single bit of boom available for the LG, it was in the Liebherr calendar a few years ago

Greetings
Christian, still amazed after all these years of the versatility of this heavy cranes modular system. no large crane has ever offered so many possible configurations

just to be complete:

here is the pic. see the white extra reduction piece in the jib. thats where it goes from boom system typ W to type N to achieve 182 meter max height

Awesome picture. Awesome crane. I agree with you Chrsitian; the more I learn about this crane, the more I love it. Thanks for the info, Bryan and Christian.

Thank you Christian! That Riga arrangement is quite spectacular. Very well thought out modular system for this crane, I will have to buy a couple!
