I know in the past there has been questions on the forum concerrning railroadin'...Is there a forum similiar to DHS's for professional railroaders? Our farm was divided by a track forever and have allways had a fascination for the freights...My wife still gets pissed, cause I will wait at a crossing for a Union Pacific to blow through...Bob

OGR for 2 and 3 rail O gauge. I'm into collecting diecast and O gauge trains.Plus I belong to a Ogauge modular train club.We set up working displays most anywhere, events, fire stations for their fund raising etc. Shoot I go back roads where I know there is a crossing and get disappointed when there isn't a train(unless I'm late for something).I also train watch in Latrobe and take pictures.

hey,i have the US diesel loco bug too!! units that weigh in at about 220tons pump out 6000hp and have engines with cylinder capacities up to 12L,although put toshame by ship engines, they're still bigger than haul trucks!! and the the mining haul truck makers have GE ALCO and GM EMD to thank for the diesel electric after buying my peterbilt and 3x3x3 nelson trailer i thought long and hard about an interesting load, weeks and weeks of searching took me to Atlasrr and O guage, you can get unpowered units for a very reasonable price and the detailing is 2d to none,so now i have sitting atop my 3x3x3 trailer a GM EMD GP60 in union pacific colours, this is not my last locomotive to buy either.... i have seen an MTH trafo wagon, could be interesting to pose with a few big cranes lifting

Lash, when I was in Ore last year I ran into an engine painted like that, im guessing a former unit. Around here we have to shortlines, so they do with what they have, paint jobs are at the bottom on the list. Hows this power match up, Central Oregon & Pacific, teamed up with New England Central?

sweet!! i bought a great book a while ago,"Locomotives, the modern diesel and electric reference" by Greg McDonnell. very high detail and great pictures and information about each loco but sadly the EMD DDax40 was before this books referance year i think the biggest locos we have here in Ireland are class 101's weigh in about 110tons and pump out 3000hp,built by GM EMD in London Ontario, heres a link to a picture, irish rail used it as a promotion to show that they would do the best for their trains and so had them delivered by air,its being loaded onto and Antanov 124 for delivery to Dublin Ireland http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.historyofaircargo.com/img/air-cargo-airmail-image-252.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.historyofaircargo.com/i-Train-takes-the-plane-or-the-plane-takes.html&usg=__TIGoBCyN-EUrwfnvmu9CJ4wPre8=&h=450&w=636&sz=78&hl=en&start=4&sig2=edi3vOHFVqVsmdvg7nFr_A&um=1&tbnid=VaoVNPpW44lYQM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=137&ei=WrC7ScnjOMOhsQbLvZ3qDg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dirish%2Btrain%2Bon%2Bairplane%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4GGLR_enIE313IE313%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1

Hey gbarnewall, I went back and looked at the pictures of your truck and I missed the track on the truck under the crane. That looks cool. Great pic of the engine loading on the plane. Something you don't see every day.

Okland, Most likely these are being rebuilt or scraped. UP has been doing alot of rebuilds. They are converting older switcher locos into new hybrid locomotives. Great Find by the way

Oakland, Im not sure about being rebuilt, scrapped, or converting into hybrids. I do know that there is no need for power out there right now. The economy has slowed to a point that there is no need for all that power in use. We dont have many locomotives sitting around here, as most of our railroads are shortlines, and they are short on power to begin with. But we do have miles and miles of railcars sitting in sidings. We have at least two coal trains sitting on sidings, and have been sitting there for months. The odd railcars we have sitting here are steel coil carriers. We dont have any coil producers, nor users here. From what I understand, the local railroad is charging car owners 50 cents a car to store them.

That looks like about half of the UP switching fleet. If they are storing them, they sure picked a bad place. They will be vandalized before they move again. That looks like an easy target to me The coal routes up here in NC are at full steam ahead. They get 1 to 2 trains a day into the plant, just like normal. UP must not be cutting back on switching power. I feel bad for the smaller railroads. I hope they can make it though this economic train wreck in one piece.

Hey farmerkev, those a beautiful pics. I like that color scheme. Landon, There aren't any vandals in Idaho! In all actuality, I doubt anyone would bother them. Back in the mid eighties when they took all the Cabooses off the trains they stored thousands of them on an old track that ran through our ranch in Southern Idaho. They stretched for mile and miles. I don't remember ever seeing one of them messed with. Of course back then you could leave your vehicle on the side of the road for weeks with the keys in the ignition and nobody would disturb it! Interesting pictures Oakland, I really get a kick out of your pictures from the Treasure. Like I said before, its like going home for a bit. However, and I hope I don't upset you, but you need to resize your photos to no more than 700 pixels wide. Most of your pics are 1024 wide and it makes the text to wide to read with out scrolling back and forth. It really gets to be a pain in the butt when a post gets a lot of replies. Either way I do enjoy your pictures!
