Both of the ringers that I did were sold to forum members.
I need to do a diorama some time with one of my reapaints. Maybe a 4100 tower setting iron on a highrise!

Your weathering of these models leaves a person speechless. And you capture the look of a hard working machine real well. One of these days I'm gonna have to reread your tips and give it a try. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. Mark L

Well, I went out and bought a ton of Evergreen and Plastruct styrene beams and columns.
I also fitted a 555 jib to the point of the tower working boom.
I plan on making a 18 story steel structure with Ironworkers setting iron with the tower.

Well one thing for sure. Evergreen's stock just blipped upwards. As you said that's a ton of plastic.

Hey Manitowoc,
I dont plan on building the whole building. I am going to do a few bays up 18 storys and have it going off of the diorama on a skew. I am going to sit down tonight and draw the layout.
But yeah, it will still be a lot of styrene. I am excited, as it has been a really long time since I have done any scratch building. I am going to try to have the iron weathed to get that raw, unpainted slightly rusted look. I will have to experiment for that.
I am going to have Ironworkers welding, stringing plum cable and laying deck. I may even have some of the lower floors poured.
I am trying to gather info about all the different types of connections, such as column splices.
I plan on it being a dio from the late '70s early '80s. My dad tells me that the column splices were 100% welded. I am sure that some moderen connections are different.

born2lift08, I felt you would only model a few bays, but even at that, it will be a lot of plastic. You'll keep the raising gang busy. Bring out the come-a-longs and chain falls, to keep her plumb. There is a neat little train accessory that is an LED kit that simulates arc welding. You may likely already know about it. Yep, full penetration welds on those columns. Took a while to fill them too. I think I would save the detail of the connections for the most visible bays and go for ease and speed on the ones set back. Very exciting project. Look forward to following it.

Manitowoc, After doing some figuring I have decided to do something different. The plastic will cost around $700.00!!! Being that I am getting laid off in the next couple of weeks, I had to rethink the idea for the dio.
I took a look in my shop and discovered a huge stash of Plastruct I-beams and columns. They are bigger that what I was going to use for the high rise, but I think I can use them for my other idea.
I am think of doing the dio where an addition is being erected on top of a type of steel mill building.
I also found a bunch of siding, like you see on building at a steel mill.
All the stuff I found was going to be used for a dio I was going to do for my 1/15th scale Manitowoc 4000W.
I am thinking of having a set of railroad tracks next to the building also.
I really wish I could afford to do my original idea. But this should still be cool.

born2lift08, I was thinking a portion of power plant boiler house would also have been a good dio as it would also lend itself to a Ringer and other cranes too. But you are more than on top of it with a mill. Once I move to the home I know I will retire in, (which the present economy has postponed it indefinitely ) I would like to dedicate a wall and about 6 feet of floor space to something like this.
